The Marauders, Marvel’s ‘X-Men Pirates’ Arrive in New Trailer

The status quo of the X-Men has changed forever, taking their places as the superior species on planet Earth. Which means it’s finally time for them to accept their destiny as more than just mutants. From this day forward… they’re mutant pirates. Well, at least some of them are.

Yes, the black sails rising on the horizon are ushering in a new age, as the Marauders (just one of the new X-Men teams and comics) finally assemble in Marvel’s Universe. Spinning out of Jonathan Hickman’s House of X and Powers of X relaunch, Captain Kate “Don’t Call Me Kitty” Pryde and her team of mutant outlaws are taking to the high seas to to enforce trade flowing from the new mutant nation of Krakoa. And to celebrate the arrival of Marauders #1, Marvel has released a launch trailer featuring Editor in-Chief C.B. Cebulski, Senior Editor Jordan D. White, and writer Gerry Duggan.

In case anyone assumes that just because Marauders doesn’t bear the X-Men name in its title, that it’s a less vital part of the new mutant story, editor Jordan D. White goes as far as saying it’s the one book fans NEED to read to follow the fallout in Dawn of X. Check out his full quote, and the launch trailer below:

Marauders is probably the most important book of the Dawn of X books, as far as furthering the world of the X-Men and the status quo of the X-Men… Emma Frost is in charge of the Hellfire Club, and they are in charge of distributing the mutant medicines throughout the world. It’s a totally new concept in the X-Men universe. I mean there have stories about pirates, but there’s never been a book about pirates before. And these are classic, big name X-Men.

In case X-Men fans forgot, the mutants of Marvel’s Universe didn’t just announce their hopes of founding an untouchable mutant nation… they informed Earth’s leaders that it was going to happen, whether they liked it or not. But instead of hoping for their acceptance, Xavier issued an offer: recognize the mutant nation, and receive access to medicines created on and by Krakoa. Medicines to cure brain illnesses, and extend human life by years. Medicines that now need to be shipped safely around the globe… which is where the Marauders come in. With their far more covert mission to funnel mutant refugees back to their new island homeland.

Writer Gerry Duggan is promising to deliver thrills for those readers who come along for the ride, along with laughs and broken hearts. To see that story begin, fans can pick up their own copy of Marauders #1 today (or wait to get every new X-Men comic in one collection).
