The Mandalorian’s Cara Dune Will Not Be Recast Despite Reports

The Mandalorian‘s Cara Dune will reportedly not be recast, contrary to previous reports that Gina Carano would be replaced. Carano was fired from The Mandalorian earlier this month after the actress continued her streak of controversial behavior on social media. The actress previously came under fire in November for posting false allegations about voter fraud and anti-masking on social media. Calls to fire Carano resounded through the fanbase and while Lucasfilm did not take any clear action at the time, it is said that plans for a Cara Dune spinoff were nixed because of these tweets.

Just last week, Carano posted again on social media, this time comparing the experience of being a Republican in America to being a Jewish person during the Holocaust. This time, Lucasfilm’s reaction was swift. Carano was fired from The Mandalorian and dropped by her agency. The actress is now working on a film with right-wing political pundit Ben Shapiro in response to what she sees as an unjustified firing.

After Carano’s firing, reports surfaced that a new actress would be recast in the role of Cara Dune, but that seems to not be the case. According to THR, Lucasfilm has no plans to recast Cara Dune. Additionally, all negotiations about her role in the future of the Star Wars franchise had ceased back in December because of her initial tweets. Carano was also originally slated to be part of Disney’s massive Star Wars announcements on their Investor’s Day call, but those plans were shelved, too.

The Mandalorian’s Cara Dune Will Not Be Recast Despite Reports

It seems that Carano was already on the way out, according to these reports. While it was too late for Disney to change anything about The Mandalorian season 2, it seems any plans for a future with Carano’s character were put to bed early and it seems as if they will stay dead. So far, Cara Dune has had a prominent role in The Mandalorian, but she is also in a unique position in that her character could easily be sidelined if necessary.

The move is probably for the best – bringing back Cara Dune would keep this entire situation in fan’s minds when Disney would likely to forget about it. Seeing as Lucasfilm has had a contentious relationship in years past regarding social media bullying against the Star Wars sequel trilogy’s stars, any reminder of a social media scandal is likely to open up old wounds. Shelving Cara Dune completely from The Mandalorian is the best way to put this whole situation behind them and the first step in rectifying past mistakes made by the studio.
