The Mandalorian Makes History With 4K & Blu-Ray Release

History is being made, with The Mandalorian set to release on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray. The Star Wars series, following the adventures of Din Djarin and his adopted son Din Grogu, originally made history as the first live-action series of the franchise, and one of the first original Disney+ series on the platform. The Mandalorian season 1 premiered with the platform in 2019 and has since gone on to continue breaking records and setting precedents with all the Star Wars live-action shows that followed. Since its debut, the show has only been available to stream on Disney+, where viewers have been tuning in for all three seasons.

Disney has announced that The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 will be released on 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray this winter. Each season will get its own steelbook packaging and concept art cards, and will be available for pre-order from August 28 ahead of their simultaneous release on December 12. The Mandalorian then makes history as the first Star Wars live-action series to jump from the digital Disney+ platform to a physical release, which will include never-before-seen bonus content and features. Will Disney Release Other Star Wars TV Shows On 4K & Blu-Ray?

Din Djarin, Ahsoka, and Boba Fett for the Mandalorian Universe

With The Mandalorian setting the pattern as a trailblazer for its following Star Wars live-action series, it’s more than likely that other series will also receive physical releases in due time. This announcement comes nearly three years after The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 fully wrapped, which implies that necessary time will also be taken to announce series such as Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett, and Andor earning 4K UHD and Blu-ray releases. If Disney goes on to give The Mandalorian season 3 a physical release as well, then it’s even more necessary that at least The Book of Boba Fett receives one, if only to stay consistent with the story.

The news of The Mandalorian seasons 1 and 2 getting a physical release is an exciting promise for itself, as well as the future of Star Wars. In an age of streaming with competitive platforms, it’s a relief to have the chance to own such renowned content in a physical form that can truly last a lifetime. Viewers will also have a chance to view the exclusive bonus features that haven’t even been revealed in behind-the-scenes content such as Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian. The iconic Star Wars series can’t seem to stop breaking new ground, and its debut in 4K Ultra HD and Blu-ray will only further cement its place in history.
