The Mandalorian & Grogu: Why Everyone Thinks Din Djarin Is Going To Die – & Why That’s Ridiculous

A common theory surrounding The Mandalorian & Grogu is that Din Djarin will meet his end in the film, though this seems like a ridiculous possibility. The theory of Din Djarin’s death being included in the upcoming Star Wars movie likely stems from the monumental decision for the film to be crafted in the first place. The Mandalorian & Grogu‘s story is seemingly making history for the Star Wars franchise by being the first theatrical film that will directly continue a tale that began as a TV show.

The Mandalorian’s story will continue with a Star Wars movie. Here’s everything we know about the project, including cast, release, and timeline.

As rumored, it seems as though The Mandalorian season 4’s story will tie directly into the newly-announced movie should the former project be confirmed by Lucasfilm. With such a game-changing decision being made by Lucasfilm, equally game-changing theories are being raised about The Mandalorian & Grogu. One of the most popular is that Din Djarin will be killed off in the film, a theory that is as ridiculous as it is unlikely.

Some Viewers Think Din Djarin Will Die In The Mandalorian & Grogu

Arguably the primary reason that supports theories that Din Djarin will die in The Mandalorian & Grogu is the involvement of Dave Filoni. Shortly after the feature film was announced with director Jon Favreau attached, it was also confirmed that Filoni will co-write the story alongside Favreau. This certainly makes sense given the duo’s work together on the previous three seasons of The Mandalorian and their ongoing collaboration with the New Republic timeline of Star Wars.

The involvement of Filoni worried fans of Din Djarin, not due to any criticisms of the Lucasfilm alum as a writer but thanks to his tendency to include character deaths in stories. Star Wars: The Clone Wars, a show created by Filoni alongside George Lucas, included a lot of tragic storylines in which Jedi, clones, or other beloved characters would meet tragic ends one way or another. This continued in Star Wars Rebels which ended on a heartbreaking note thanks to the death of Kanan Jarrus and the sacrifice of Ezra Bridger

These sad storylines have led many to fear for the lives of the New Republic’s characters. From fan favorites like Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren in Ahsoka season 2 to the future of Ezra Bridger, Filoni’s track record – which even connects to the tragic loss of Tech in The Bad Batch season 2 – has audiences worried for the safety of various Star Wars characters under Filoni’s control. This extends to Din Djarin now that Filoni is confirmed to be writing The Mandalorian & Grogu alongside Favreau.

THAT Star Wars Creative Isn’t In Charge Of The Mandalorian & Grogu

All that said, the reason why the theories about Din dying are ridiculous is that Filoni is not in complete charge of The Mandalorian & Grogu like he has been with the aforementioned projects. Despite Filoni being very involved in The Mandalorian seasons 1, 2, and 3, Jon Favreau is still the creator of the character. Favreau still holds the final say over what happens to the characters of Din Djarin and Grogu and is likely going to be more influential in the direction of The Mandalorian & Grogu‘s script. As such, it will be Favreau who decides Din’s fate, not Filoni.

The Mandalorian & Grogu Proves Din Djarin Will Live A Long Time

Din Djarin and Grogu in The Mandalorian season 2

Another aspect of The Mandalorian & Grogu that supports Din’s Star Wars journey continuing is the title of the film. Including both characters in the title of a theatrical Star Wars film proves that they are a package deal. With Grogu being so young during the era of the New Republic and The Mandalorian season 3 ending with Din adopting the child, it is hard to imagine one existing without the other. The relationship between Din Djarin and Grogu has been the beating heart of The Mandalorian thus far and will seemingly continue to be so in The Mandalorian & Grogu.

This means that killing off Din Djarin risks alienating viewers who are tuning in to witness the continued development of their relationship. Not only do fans love Din as a character, but killing him off may sour audiences who are committed to the relationship between him and Grogu. This could mean that Din’s death would cause people to be too devastated to continue watching just for Grogu’s continued journey if the latter plot point does not involve the child’s adopted father. This all proves why the theory of Din’s death in The Mandalorian & Grogu is both highly unlikely and ridiculous.
