The Mandalorian Episode 7 Cliffhanger Explained

WARNING: The following contains spoilers for The Mandalorian.

The Mandalorian episode 7 ends on a cliffhanger, and with just one more episode left for the season, fans are obviously looking forward to what’s going down in the show’s finale. Directed by Deborah Chow and written by series creator Jon Favreau, The Mandalorian episode 7, “The Reckoning”, brought Mando and the Force-sensitive Baby Yoda back to Nevarro after being on the run for several episodes.

Back on Nevarro, Mando teamed up with Greef Karga (Carl Weathers) in the hopes of taking down the Imperial remnants in the city led by The Client (Werner Herzog). Knowing that he’ll be up for a fight, Mando recruits his trusted allies, such as Kuiil (Nick Nolte), Cara Dune (Gina Carano), and even a reprogrammed IG-11 (Taika Waititi). While Karga was supposed to double-cross the Mandalorian, he ultimately sided with them, hatching a plan to kill The Client. Things, unfortunately, turned for the worse with the arrival of Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito).

Just when it seemed like Mando and his team were going to pull off their mission, they’re ambushed Moff Gideon and his company of Stormtroopers. As the Mandalorian, Cara, and Greef were trapped in the safe house, Kuiil was riding a Blurrg back to the Razer Crest with Baby Yoda, as per planned. Not knowing that their communicators are bugged, Mando unknowingly told the Scout troopers where to find Baby Yoda. Two troopers on their speeder bikes then quickly traced the call and located Kuiil, and despite his hardest effort to get to Mando’s ship and secure Baby Yoda safely, he got shot – leaving him and his Blurrg unconscious, seemingly dead just in front of the spaceship and the mysterious child at the hands of Moff Gideon’s people.

The Mandalorian Episode 7 Cliffhanger Explained

With the latest The Mandalorian episode ending on that note, the upcoming season finale will more likely directly address what will happen next. Baby Yoda is now at the hands of Moff Gideon, and while his intentions for the creature are still unknown, he made it clear that he was very motivated to get it – more likely because of nefarious reasons. Considering that the child has been kidnapped, it’s safe to assume that the still-untitled outing directed by Waititi will primarily be about Mando, with the help of his remaining allies, trying retrieve Baby Yoda.

While Kuiil appeared dead, it’s worth noting that IG-11 was supposed to be in the ship waiting for the team to return. He was rewired to care for other people, so it’s possible that he can save Kuiil, granted that he did not die on the spot. As for the trio who were left surrounded by Moff Gideon and his troops, perhaps Paz Vizla and other fellow Mandalorians can once again bail Mando out of the tricky situation. Finally, while he’s supposed to be an infant, Baby Yoda seemed powerful with the Force, so he could be of help as well. We already saw how protective it is of Mando, so maybe it can use his abilities once he sees his friend in a dire situation.

For the most part, The Mandalorian has taken a procedural storytelling format, but its final two episodes will be more serialized with the penultimate outing capping off with a massive cliffhanger. It’s a great way to get more people tuned in next week for the show’s final season 1 episode as we find out whether or not Mando will be able to save Baby Yoda from Moff Gideon.
