The LEGO Movie 2 Adds Tiffany Haddish To Its Voice Cast

The LEGO Movie 2 Adds Tiffany Haddish To Its Voice Cast

Tiffany Haddish is set to lend her voice to The LEGO Movie 2. Warner Bros. found a surprise hit in 2014 thanks to directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The Jump Street directors went back to their animated roots from Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and took on the challenge of making a movie based on LEGO Bricks. They defied the expectations of many and created a fun, awesome world filled with lovable characters. The LEGO Movie was a huge hit amongst critics, and audiences really responded to the family-friendly adventure, as it raked in nearly $500 million worldwide.

That performance not only warranted a sequel, but also pushed WB to expand the LEGO cinematic universe. They’ve done so with The LEGO Batman Movie and The LEGO Ninjago Movie both hitting theaters last year, but with diminishing results financially. These under-performers hasn’t derailed the sequel though. It has Trolls director Mike Mitchell calling the shots, and has now added its first new cast member.

Variety reports Girls Trip breakout star Haddish will be part of the voice cast for The LEGO Movie 2. There’s currently no word on who she will be playing, or how her character factors into the story. This is the latest project Haddish has joined, but the voice-only nature of this role should make it easy for her to fit it into her increasingly busy schedule.

The LEGO Movie 2 Adds Tiffany Haddish To Its Voice Cast

Even though the sequel is still a year away, the addition of Haddish only adds to an already impressive cast list. Chris Pratt and Elizabeth Banks will return as Emmett and Wyldstyle, respectively. Meanwhile, the superhero presence won’t be diminished in the sequel either, as Will Arnett (Batman), Jonah Hill (Green Lantern), and Channing Tatum (Superman) are also set to return. Considering The LEGO Movie‘s cast was stuffed with cameo roles, it should be expected that the sequel will do the same.

As the cast is taking shape for The LEGO Movie 2, the plot is still very much a mystery. Lord and Miller did a rewrite late last year, and revealed that the sequel will tackle gender differences. This will be incorporated thanks to Will Ferrell’s The Man Upstairs telling his son Finn to let his sister play too, leading to the Duplos joining this world. That could be where Haddish will factor in, as she could be the lead Duplo and then being the sister’s main figure in the LEGO world. But, the focus on these themes doesn’t mean the sequel will lose the zaniness of the first movie. McKay has described the sequel as a musical, space-action movie, so there will be plenty of fun to be had – especially with Haddish joining the fray.
