Photos of The Last of Us cast reveal some of the new actors as filming grows closer. The Last of Us season 1 took the world by storm when it was released in January 2023. The Last of Us was renewed for season 2, and the show’s second season will adapt the video game follow-up The Last of Us: Part II.
Now, new photos (posted by @zarakvancouver) reveal returning and new cast members together as the start date for The Last of Us season 2 filming nears. The photo takes the form of a black-and-white image taken from a Vancouver restaurant called Zarak. Cast and crew members pose together as they smile at the camera.
Cast members in the photo include Ellie actor Bella Ramsey along with new The Last of Us season 2 cast members Young Mazino and Isabela Merced. The photo also includes a number of key behind-the-scenes people from The Last of Us, including creator Craig Mazin and executive producer Jacqueline Lesko.

The Last of Us season 2 will see the returns of Emmy-nominated stars Ramsey and Pedro Pascal. The show will also add a number of new characters from The Last of Us: Part II video game. Several of these characters have recently been cast, including Mazino in the role of Jesse, Merced in the role of Dina, and Kaitlyn Dever in the role of Abby.
Already, The Last of Us season 2’s casting has been the subject of controversy among those familiar with the video game. Backlash began with Dever’s casting as Abby, as fans felt that the actress did not fit the physicality that the video game character is supposed to have. In The Last of Us game, Abby was portrayed as a buff woman that does not comply with more archetypical female beauty standards, and Dever herself is a smaller-bodied actress. Die-hard fans of The Last of Us are worried how this will alter Abby’s character.

With confirmation that The Last of Us season 2 will follow the video game to some extent, these three locations have to be included to help the story.
Merced’s casting as Dina also caused controversy due to the fact that Dina is Jewish in the games and Merced herself is not. Dina’s Jewish identity plays a prominent role in her character design in The Last of Us: Part II, so it is understandable why fans may be upset at what seems to be a significant change. Hopefully, the new The Last of Us season 2 cast members can help compensate for the controversy by delivering stellar performances.

The Last of Us TV series is a collaborative effort between one of the original creators, Neil Druckmann, and the creator of the award-winning HBO series Chernobyl.
