The Justice League Are Going to War With a New Galactic Team

Warning! Spoilers ahead for Justice League #67!

The Justice League‘s new cosmic allies, the United Order, will cross a line, resulting in an all-out super battle. Lately, the United Planets have played a big role in DC’s universe. Their presence, as most comic readers know, is huge in the future and the publisher just came off of Future State, a line-wide event set in the future. The United Planets is a cosmic governing body, comprised of members from planets all across the galaxy. They have an interest in keeping the peace between all species and beings, giving membership to only the planets that prove their worth.

Notably, in Future State, Lois Lane is Earth’s representative. Therefore, it’s safe to assume they mean no harm as she and Superman work with them. So, why is the league facing off against their superhero team? After Justice League‘s current storyline with Naomi and her homeworld, the next will see the return of a major Superman villain, Synmar Utopica. It’s been teased that the newly formed United Planets come to the Justice League asking for help against the universe’s new greatest threat. After being informed of Synmar’s threat, the league takes off to the outer depths of space to track him down and put a stop to him.

However, in Justice League #67 by Brian Michael Bendis, Phil Hester, and Ivan Plascencia, the United Planet’s new galactic Justice League cross a huge boundary. What they do remains to be seen, but it sparks an all-out war between the United Order and the Justice League. Perhaps it’s the failing dynamic of the United Planet’s new team? Or maybe it’s something else, but as teased in the solicitation below, the United Planets are in danger as their team gets on the wrong side of the Justice League. Described as a “thunderous clash of intergalactic superpowers,” Superman and the team will be giving all they have to stop their new rivals. Check out the cover art and solicitation below:

  • It’s the Justice League versus the United Order as the truth that gives power to this new cosmic super team crosses a line that the Justice League cannot allow. Will there even be a United Planets after this thunderous clash of intergalactic superpowers? Also, Green Arrow must come to terms with his responsibilities to both Checkmate and the League. Ollie may have to pick which path to follow, but what does it mean for the future of the League if the guy paying the bills has to bail?
  • The Silent School used their magic for years to protect Atlantis from all kinds of invaders, but nothing prepared them for the most powerful sorcerer ever…Merlin! Luckily, the Justice League Dark arrives to turn the tide of the battle. However, they’re not fighting at full strength. Zatanna is harboring a dark secret, and if she unleashes her magic, it could drown everyone!

DC Comics hasn’t revealed the members of the United Order’s roster as of yet. However, Hawkman features on an upcoming Justice League cover, in the issue where the new galactic Justice League is introduced. It can be assumed he is the team leader, considering that no one else has been teased. Normally, the Justice League are very rational in their actions which makes sense as they are led by Superman. Therefore, it must be assumed that they do something terribly wrong to provoke the Justice League. Apparently, it’s something that “they cannot allow.” Perhaps Synmar Utopica is captured and they want to be rid of him for good?

Whilst this is all happening, back on Earth, Green Arrow is dealing with Checkmate. He must deal with his responsibilities to both teams, meaning that a decision is impending about which path he will take. This could have big ramifications for the Justice League as Oliver Queen is their current benefactor. In the end, it looks like the Justice League take its bold move due to the United Order breaking its strict principles. Pushing the league’s boundaries is going to result in an intergalactic battle between both supposed allies. Justice League #67 releases on August 17 in comic book shops and on digital platforms.
