Anne Hathaway continues her return to rom-coms (following her performance as Patricia Jessup-Lauddem in She Came to Me) in The Idea of You, which features her character dating the (younger) lead singer of a famous band. The 2024 romantic comedy, directed by Michael Showalter and written by Showalter and Jennifer Westfeldt, is based on Robinne Lee’s 2017 book of the same name. As The Idea of You‘s trailer showcases, Hathaway’s character falls for a British pop star, played by Nicholas Galitzine, and their romance is complicated by the age difference and the rampant publicity surrounding their relationship.

Based on the previews for The Idea of You, it seems the story primarily focuses on Hathaway and Galitzine’s characters. However, the Amazon Prime Video movie features an ensemble cast, including an ex-husband, a teenage daughter, and other band members. The leading actress’ involvement in The Idea of You obviously elevates the hype surrounding it, but Hathaway’s 2024 rom-com is garnering positive reviews for the chemistry between her and Galitzine, the film’s thoughtful and poignant script, and more.
