The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’s 10 Most Dangerous Tributes, Ranked

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’s 10 Most Dangerous Tributes, Ranked

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire brought together past winners of the Hunger Games for the 75th iteration of the game, which meant the most dangerous set of tributes assembled in history. The Hunger Games sequel takes place during the third Quarter Quell, where past Hunger Games winners victors take part in the annual selection process. This leaves Katniss and Peeta to be thrown back into the arena and fight against some of the most experienced and powerful tributes that the Hunger Games has ever seen.

Since every tribute in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire is a former victor, their skill and strengths are unquestionable. They each won their previous Hunger Games for a reason, but that does not mean that they are all equal by the time the Quarter Quell takes place. Whether it was the Morphlings from District 6 or Mags volunteering for Annie, there was a clear divide between the strongest and weakest returning victors. While the arena itself is more deadly than last time, the tributes are just as dangerous. Even though no true victor was crowned by the time The Hunger Games: The Catching Fire‘s ending occurs, a hierarchy is clear.

10 Peeta Mellark Is Stronger Than He Looks

District 12

During The Hunger Games, Peeta Mellark had several strengths and weaknesses. Peeta, alongside Katniss, won the 74th Hunger Games by defying the Capitol’s rule that only one tribute can become the victor. Although Peeta isn’t skilled in combat, the time he spent working in his family’s bakery, hefting 100-pound bags of flour, helped him become stronger. Decorating cakes made him extremely adept at camouflage. During the 75th Hunger Games training, Peeta shows he has more guts than he is given credit for when he paints a picture of Rue decorated with daisies.

He gets a score of 12 for his blatant criticism of the Capitol, a feat that no one in the Hunger Games has managed to do. What makes Peeta deadly apart from his strength is his compassion and the love he has for Katniss. He is willing to do anything and kill anyone in the arena to ensure that Katniss becomes the victor, even if he must die. In The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Peeta kills Brutus, one of the most dangerous tributes in the games, after he witnesses him murdering Chaff, but he also is often left in a position of needing saving.

9 Wiress Was A Technology Genius

District 3

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’s 10 Most Dangerous Tributes, Ranked

Wiress, from District 3, was not a combat-skilled tribute, but she was one of the smartest. It’s not revealed how she won her Hunger Games, but because she was from District 3, her victory could be attributed to a technical or electrical trap. After winning her games, Wiress saved as a mentor to other District 3 tributes. In The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Wiress was integral in helping her allies realize that the arena was a clock that revealed new threats every hour. She might not have been the best at communication, but her contribution to keeping her allies alive makes her one of the most dangerous tributes.

8 Cashmere Is A Deadly Beauty

District 1

Cashmere from Catching Fire

Like her brother Gloss, Cashmere is a Career who spent most of her life training for the Hunger Games. Unfortunately, Cashmere does not get a lot of screen time in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, so not a lot is known about her. Although the way she won the 64th Hunger Games is unknown, her skills with a knife and combat, skills that she likely picked up from her brother Gloss, who was probably her mentor, might have been a contributing factor. Her beauty and cunning undoubtedly made her a Capitol darling, but she did not last long in the 75th Hunger Games, as Johanna killed her.

7 Gloss Is Lethal With A Knife

District 1

Hunger Games Gloss

Before the Quarter Quell, Gloss had won the 63rd Hunger Games, which means he might have served as a mentor until he volunteered for the 75th Hunger Games. His skills did not diminish between his games and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, as he earned a high score among the tributes. He was highly skilled with a knife and in combat, which allowed him to be responsible for killing many tributes, including Wiress. While he has all the skill, ruthlessness, and cunning of the Career tributes, the Capitol’s pampering made him weaker. His tactics and planning are not a strength, as evident by his quick demise after killing Wiress.

6 Brutus Is Lethal With A Spear

District 2

Hunger Games Catching Fire Brutus

Brutus is a Career tribute from District 2 and the winner of the 46th Hunger Games. His name aptly describes his brutish strength and ruthless personality. He was one of the few tributes who volunteered to participate in the third Quarter Quell, stating that he couldn’t wait to get back into the arena. He showcases his skill with a spear during the training session, which earns him a high score. While he is credited for killing the female tribute from District 9, Brutus is ultimately killed by Peeta near the conclusion of the Hunger Games.

5 Enobaria Uses Her Teeth As A Weapon

District 2

Enobaria in the Hunger Games

Enobaria, a Career tribute from District 2 who volunteered for the third Quarter Quell, was not shy about showing her bloodlust. She showed her dedication to killing by sharpening her teeth into fangs, so she could rip out the throats of the other tributes. Her various skills in combat and use of weapons led her to win the 62nd Hunger Games. Enobaria is agile, lethal, and skilled with a knife, sword, and martial arts. She and the Career pack are responsible for most of the deaths in the 75th Hunger Games. Enobaria was one of the few victors who survived the rebellion.

4 Katniss Everdeen Is Skilled With A Bow And Arrow

District 12

Katniss Everdeen is the main protagonist in The Hunger Games, who unknowingly kick-starts a rebellion that helps set Panem free itself from the clutches of the Capitol. Katniss hailed from the poverty-stricken coal mining District 12, where she had to hunt using a bow and arrow she inherited from her father to keep her family fed. Katniss and Peeta won the 74th Hunger Games and were meant to serve as mentors in the third Quarter Quell until it was announced that she would be, once again, a tribute in the games.

In her training for the 75th Hunger Games, Katniss scored a 12 after she turned a dummy into the previous head game maker, Seneca Crane. Compared to the other tributes in the 75th Hunger Games, Katniss was the least experienced. However, her cunning and prodigal skill with a bow and arrow helped keep her alive. During the Quarter Quell, she killed one of the career packs, Gloss, after he ruthlessly slit Wiress’s neck. Katniss’ strength lies in her ability to put others before herself. She volunteered herself as tribute so she could save her sister Primrose and also did her best to ensure that Peeta won the 75th Hunger Games.

3 Beetee Latier Is An Electronic Genius

District 3

Hunger Games Catching Fire Beetee

Beetee Latier won the Hunger Games by crafting an elaborate electronic trap that killed 6 of the remaining tributes. Beetee had no physical strength to speak of, but his brain is what kept him alive during his first time in the arena and also in the 75th Hunger Games. He had been working for the Capitol since he won his games, creating most of the technology that the citizens of Panem depended on. In the 75th Hunger Games, Betee came up with a similar plan to kill the Careers that he used in his first games, but unfortunately, he was stabbed by Enobaria before the plan was completed.

2 Johanna Mason Is Highly Skilled With An Ax

District 7

Johanna Mason from The Hunger Games: Catching Fire

Johanna Mason often put up a tough exterior to mask the trauma the Hunger Games had put her through. She won her first games by pretending to be weak when she was one of the most dangerous tributes in the arena. Her formidable skills with an ax made her a force to be reckoned with. In The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Johanna is essential in keeping Katniss safe by killing off tributes threatening her life. Her ruthless attitude made her fearless and gave her the strength to take on any tribute who was dumb enough to get in her way.

1 Finnick Odair Is Handy With A Trident

District 4

Finnick Odair was the youngest tribute to win the Hunger Games at age 14. Blessed with good looks and charm, Finnick was a favorite who traded his body for secrets from the most influential people in the Capitol. His charm, good looks, and skill made him a Capitol favorite. As a citizen of District 4, which specialized in fishing, Finick was highly skilled in combat, especially with a trident. He was famous for using elaborate fishing traps to snare his fellow tributes and then using a trident to kill them.

As the victor of the 65th Hunger Games, Finnick proved to be a valuable ally to Katniss and Peeta during the Quarter Quell, especially because the arena was mostly made of water. He established his skill with a trident when he killed the District 5 and 9 tributes. Finnick’s easygoing demeanor could easily fool the citizens of the Capitol, but he could become lethal when it came to saving himself and the people he cared about. If The Hunger Games: Catching Fire‘s Hunger Games were not interrupted by a rebellion, there’s a good chance Finnick could have won it all.
