The Hellbound Vol. 2 Official Cover Revealed (Exclusive)

Screen Rant has an exclusive look at the cover for the second volume of The HellboundThis Korean manhwa from Dark Horse Comics will be coming to Netflix soon from the director of Train to Busan.

Yeon Sang-Ho directed the cult favorite film, Train to Busan. Now, he is working with Choi Gyu-Seok – a cartoonist – to bring fans a whole new horror-filled story. Manhwa is similar to manga, except that it comes from Korea. These are Korean comics, which shouldn’t be confused with manhua, which are Chinese comics. The terms are similar and the mediums are all comics, but they each have different storytelling and artistic traditions.

This fall, The Hellbound will be arriving on Netflix. It will be a live-action horror series. However, this is the first time that this story will be available in English. This volume has been translated by Danny Lim. The first volume has already been released, but now the second cover has been revealed – and it’s beautiful. Check out the cover and synopsis here:

The Hellbound Vol. 2 Official Cover Revealed (Exclusive)

Terror intensifies as the truth behind a series of deadly and mysterious attacks is revealed. Death, murder, and hysteria. The reality of hell on earth has reached new heights following numerous public massacres. The fear-stricken public begin to reexamine their lives, while others find refuge in cults, religious dogma, and internet hearsay. Does there exist salvation from this sentence of death or is the notice an irrefutable condemnation? With horror befalling the chairman, what future lies for the New Truth Society? And who or what is responsible for creating this nightmarish world? It is time to make amends and face the mistakes of the past — atone.

This volume from Dark Horse will be the conclusion of the story, which began as a webtoon titled Hell. In the first volume, people began receiving messages that revealed when they would go to hell. On that day, the “angels of death” come, bringing their condemnation. This brings about a new religion called Saejinrihwe, which is founded by Jung Jin Soo. This is a story of fear, survival, and social chaos invoked by hysteria. The new volume will reveal the truth of what is really happening in this world.

Netflix has greatly expanded its library of films from across the globe – particularly those with comic connections. The company has adapted The Umbrella AcademyChilling Adventures of Sabrina, and October Faction. There are plans to adapt The Sandman, Mark Millar’s Millarworld works, and BRZRKR. However, the company has also expanded its Korean Drama (K-Drama) offerings and it is great to see comics be adapted on a broader global scale.

Bong Joon-ho, three-time Academy Award winning South Korean film director, stated:

Choi Gyu-seok’s sharp and keen drawing style goes well beyond depicting the modern Korean’s physique, expression, and wrinkles. It reaches a genius level where we can feel the character’s anxiety and fear. A truly overwhelming world of fear that cannot be explained with words like ‘God’s prank’ or ‘grand nonsense.’ We are already burning in the center of the hell that Yeon Sang-ho and Choi Gyu-seok are portraying.

This new Dark Horse volume is sure to pack more horrors and revelations. It will be a perfect read for comic fans wanting some new horror that they may not have heard of just yet – before catching the adapted show. A release date has not yet been provided for this volume’s arrival, though the Netflix series based on The Hellbound manhwa will begin November 19th.
