The Gray Man Prequel Currently In Development With Deadpool Writers Attached

A prequel to Netflix’s upcoming original movie The Gray Man is already in development with Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick attached. The Gray Man is one of this summer’s most anticipated releases on the streaming service and will see Ryan Gosling star as “Sierra Six” a CIA agent who is forced to go on the run after he unearths some dark agency secrets. The Gray Man will also see Chris Evans star as Lloyd Hansen, a former colleague of Gosling’s character who seeks to hunt him down. Scheduled to have a limited theatrical run beginning July 15, The Gray Man will then release on Netflix on July 22. The film is set to be Netflix’s most expensive original movie to date, with a budget of $200 million.

Per Empire Magazine (via @evanscontent) its been confirmed that a prequel to The Gray Man is already in its very early stages of development, with the plot set to focus on Evans’ character. Deadpool‘s Reese and Wernick are currently attached to pen the film, with very few other details known at this stage. It was also confirmed that a direct sequel to The Gray Man is also already in the cards, believed to be in its very early stages as well, with Marvel writer Stephen McFeely currently outlining the project and Gosling set to return. The Gray Man is helmed by beloved MCU directors Joe and Anthony Russo who directed Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, with the pair having reunited with screenwriters Christopher Markus and McFeely on this exciting action-thriller. It is not yet known, however, if the Russo brothers have plans to return for the sequel. Described as a “psychopathic mercenary” details surrounding Evans’ character remain scarce, however, a new still was recently shared which offered another look at Hansen, while still giving very little away. With not long to go until The Gray Man formally introduces audiences to Hansen, it appears this character could come with a rather interesting backstory, one that could be explored in the future should this prequel continue to move in the right direction.
