The Good Place: Janet’s 10 Quirkiest Moments, Ranked

The Good Place: Janet’s 10 Quirkiest Moments, Ranked

The Good Place – both the show and the location (which isn’t actually the Good Place, but moving on) would not be the same without Janet. Janet is one of the iconic features of the series, being the omnipotent provider. She knows all and can create just about anything, and she does so with a smile.

Sometimes Janet’s temperament may seem a bit, well, quirky. Which is all well and fun, but it has certainly created several quirky moments from the series itself. After all, how could we possibly forget that Janet is not a woman since she insists on reminding us (well, Jason) every chance she gets? But it’s those moments that ultimately make a series, all while making us laugh out loud.

So with that in mind, we’re going to talk about 10 of Janet’s quirkiest, silliest, and funniest moments of the series. So far. There may only be a few episodes left, but we’re not counting out the possibility for humor and drama in those moments.

Not A Woman

The Good Place: Janet’s 10 Quirkiest Moments, Ranked

The first item on our list of Janet’s quirkiest moment is actually a series of moments. One thing you can count on with Janet; she will always correct you when you call her a woman or a person. There’s no doubt in our minds that Janet is not a woman. Well, no doubt for anybody except perhaps Jason, who tends to get easily confused, so that’s really not his fault.

There is just something so funny about Janet interrupting the flow in a conversation to casually remind people (mostly Jason) that she is in fact not a woman. Or a person. It’s just such a Janet thing to do, don’t you think?

A Great Big Proposal

Jason and Janet's wedding.

Another quirky moment of Janet’s would have to be the time she decided to get married. You know, when she and Jason decided to have a wedding right in Tahani’s house. The whole wedding was quite crazy and comical – from the vows to Janet ignoring the objections in the crowd.

Then there’s the fact that neither of them was really up for keeping that a secret. And don’t overlook the fact that one of these people is very much not a woman, as she constantly (and happily) pointed out.

Holding Others Inside

Remember the time that Janet tried to hide the four humans inside her void? We do. Boy was that a crazy and chaotic mess. Apparently Janet was not designed to do something like that, because things got pretty weird.

For starters, all four humans looked exactly like Janet. For another, things started going wrong very quickly, as they started messing around in her void (they couldn’t resist, could they?). We loved everything about this scene, from Jason’s reaction to having breasts, to the dual-Janet kissing scene.

Talk About A Rebound

Thanks to the constant rebooting of the humans in the Good Place, there came a time when Jason no longer remembers being married to Janet. That was not ideal, as Janet didn’t know how to deal with that.

After getting some relationship advice from Eleanor (not the best call), Janet opted to go the rebound route. Which sounds fine – except she had to make a boyfriend with which to rebound. Enter Derek! Derek is…well, Derek. He doesn’t work too well, but Mindy St. Claire seemed to appreciate him (once Janet was done with him).

I Have Been Murdered

Oh! How about the time that Janet was murdered!? Remember that? In an attempt to save Michael, Eleanor and crew decided to murder Janet. What transpired was an absolute chaotic mess. First, there was the whole process of murdering Janet (more on that below).

Then there was her announcement. ‘Attention: I have been murdered.’ Playing on repeat. Finally, the newly reborn Janet had to relearn everything in the universe, which apparently is not a fast process. The whole scenario was pretty priceless, all things considered.

Trying On New Personas

Next up on our list is that time Michael tried to have Janet be his assistant. That sounds good in practice, but for some reason, he kept altering her personality along the way. Those moments were pretty funny – especially the version of Janet that tried to seduce Chidi.

Or the time when she kept saying fun facts. That one was pretty funny as well, though perhaps not so much for those that actually had to deal with her on a regular basis. We can see how that would have gotten tired very quickly.

Trying To Be Bad

Janet and Micheal looking shocked

At one point during The Good Place, Michael and crew decided to break into the Bad Place. And that required them to have a Bad Janet with them. Picture sweet and helpful Janet trying to be bad. Yeah, it didn’t go so well.

On the bright side, it was pretty funny. While Janet is not that great at being bad, she is pretty decent at being passive-aggressive – a fact that she doesn’t appreciate everyone missing out on.

Human Emotions

Michael and Janet saying goodbye in The Good Place

One of our absolute favorite moments of Janet is actually a relatively small moment. It’s also a moment used to advertise the series – so clearly we’re not the only ones that love it.

Remember back during the first season, when Janet was trying to emulate and showcase human emotions? Specifically, she was trying to imitate human crying? To be fair, she didn’t do a bad job, so long as she was trying to mimic a child crying as opposed to an adult. We’ve got to give credit for going all out on that one!

Malfunctioning

Next up on our list of quirky Janet moments would be the time that she was malfunctioning. Well, perhaps it’s more accurate to say one of the times. In this case, we’re referring to the time she started malfunctioning when Jason and Tahani were in a relationship. After all, Janet didn’t know how to cope with being dumped/forgotten, or with having those complex feelings.

As it turns out, Janet feeling bad results with The Good Place being put at risk, which isn’t ideal. It is, however, hilarious for those of us watching it from the safety of our homes.

Don’t Kill Me!

Finally, the number one item on our list; Janet’s many pleas and tactics to avoid being killed/rebooted. It’s an automatic response, and not one she has control over. But it is hilarious.

We’ve seen Janet rebooted countless times over the course of the series. From that first dramatic moment, when it was the humans behind the button mashing. To the hundreds of times Michael had to reboot her.

Each and every one of those times was hilarious, with Janet coming up with creative ways to plead for her life (not a life?). The montage of begging/falling is a highly memorable one, and easily makes the top of this list.
