The women vying for Gerry Turner’s heart on The Golden Bachelor have now been officially revealed. For the first time in Bachelor Nation history, the lead and cast of one of the shows are all senior citizens. The Golden Bachelor‘s Gerry Turner is a retired restaurateur from Indiana. He has a lake house where he likes to spend time and stay active with his family (including two daughters and two granddaughters) and friends. Gerry lost his wife to an illness six years ago and is now re-entering the dating scene to look for love again.
ABC announced (via EW) the cast of 22 women who will appear in The Golden Bachelor season 1 with Gerry. An accompanying video from Bachelor Nation on YouTube showed the women introducing themselves.
The women include retired nutritionist Anna (61), therapist April (65), retired purchasing manager Christina (73), retired realtor Edith (60), retired teacher Ellen (71), high school teacher Faith (60), retired project manager Jeanie (65), private school administrator Joan (60), retired educational consultant Kathy (70), fitness instructor Leslie (64), health and wellness director Maria (60), educator Marina (60), retired interior designer Nancy (60), pro-aging coach and midlife speaker Natascha (60), retired salon owner Pamela (75), retired real estate professional Patty (70), dental hygienist Peggy (69), former Chicago Honey Bears cheerleader Renee (67), retired executive assistant Sandra (75), wedding officiant Susan (66), public affairs consultant Sylvia (64) and financial services professional Theresa (69).
Matt James’ Mother Patty Will Compete On The Golden Bachelor
One of the women will be familiar to Bachelor fans. Patty is none other than Matt James’ mother. Matt starred in The Bachelor season 25 and made history as the first Black Bachelor lead. He chose Rachael Kirkconnell at the very end, even though she was embroiled in a scandal when photos surfaced of her an Antebellum party. Chris Harrison ended up losing his job as host after defending Rachael.
Matt and Rachael are still together, despite recent breakup speculation. Over the summer, they were asked about rumors that Matt’s mother Patty would be on The Golden Bachelor. Both Matt and Rachael were adamant that they had no idea whether the rumors were true. Filming for The Golden Bachelor began a few weeks later, which likely means Matt already knew at that point his mother was cast and was trying to play coy about the whole situation.
Several weeks ago, Gerry revealed the age range he would prefer for the women on the show, with the Golden Bachelor lead saying they should be 60-70. It turns out ABC listened to his preference. As seen in the cast announcement, the women on The Golden Bachelor range in age from 60 to 75. Gerry is 72 years old, so the network ended up casting age-suitable women to vie for his heart.
The Golden Bachelor premieres September 28 at 8 p.m. EDT on ABC.
