The Galaxy Z Flip 4 Is Getting A Fast Charging Upgrade

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 Is Getting A Fast Charging Upgrade

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is getting 25W fast charging, a Chinese certification website has revealed. The Galaxy Z Flip 3 featured 15W fast charging, which is quite low by Android flagship standards. While brands like OnePlus have adopted 150W fast charging on recent phones like the OnePlus 10R, Samsung is still stuck at 45W speeds for its Galaxy S22 series flagships. Unlike OnePlus, Samsung doesn’t even include a charger in the box.

Following the success of the Galaxy Z Flip 3 and Fold 3, Samsung is banking on even higher sales numbers with its upcoming foldable phones. According to display supply chain expert Ross Young, Samsung is anticipating much higher demand for the Galaxy Flip 4, and is preparing to increase shipments by up to 70 percent. A price cut could also be on the cards, which could see sales signficantly increase for the clamshell foldable.

There has been a bit of speculation about the Galaxy Z Flip 4 shipping with faster charging, but the news has now been seemingly confirmed thanks to a listing on China’s 3C agency, which requires products to be certified before they are sold in the country. The listing, first spotted by tipster Mukul Sharma, reveals that both the Galaxy Z Flip 4 and Galaxy Z Fold 4 will support fast charging up to 25W. While this is a significant bump for the Flip 4, the charging speeds remain unchanged for the Fold 4. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 is expected to feature a similar battery capacity as its predecessor, but the lack of a fast charging upgrade is a surprising omission.

According to previous leaks, the Galaxy Z Flip 4 will feature a slightly bigger battery than the Flip 3, up from 3,300mAh to 3,400mAh. This is just a 3 percent increase in capacity, so users shouldn’t expect a noticeable difference in daily usage. However, with 25W fast charging, topping up the battery when it runs low will be considerably faster. Unfortunately, Samsung is unlikely to include a charger in the box, which means a faster charger will be an additional purchase.

The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is expected to feature the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor that’s seen on the Galaxy S22 series flagships. It could also feature a larger cover display that’s at least 2-inches in size. A few other rumors point to improved dust and water resistance and better cameras. Overall though, the phone is expected to be a minor upgrade over the Galaxy Z Flip 3, and carry forward many of its features, including a 120Hz AMOLED display, a punch-hole camera, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 is expected to be released in August 2022 alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
