The Flash: Wally West Will Face His ‘Heroes in Crisis’ Killings

In The Flash #768, Wally West, the new Flash, faces his past as he is sent on a journey throughout time. Out of all of DC’s heroes, Wally has arguably suffered the most in recent years. Wally was reintroduced in DC Rebirth, where it’s revealed that he was lost in the Speed Force for over ten years and as a result of timeline changes, his family was wiped from existence. Recently, he went on a murderous spree, killing his friends and innocents, as his body was taken over by the Four Horseman’s Riders in Future State. This is just the tip of the iceberg of what the speedster has been through.

Most importantly, in Heroes in Crisis, it’s revealed that Wally West is the killer behind a series of gruesome deaths. This happened as Wally, residing in the superhero rehabilitation center known as the Sanctuary, found out that he wasn’t alone in feeling isolated. After uncovering the Sanctuary’s records, Wally is overcome with emotions, breaking him. Wally’s loss of control of his Speed Force powers results in the deaths of all the other heroes in the Sanctuary, including Roy Harper, who recently returned from the dead in Infinite Frontier #0.

DC Comics has released the solicitation, cover art, and variant cover for The Flash #768 by Jeremy Adams, Brandon Peterson, Marco Santucci, David Lafuente, Mike Atiyeh, Arif Prianto, and Luis Guerrero. The main cover art by Peterson features a completely lost-looking Wally kneeling outside the Sanctuary. It’s clear that this venture will be the vital point where Wally will choose his destiny, whether he takes on the Flash mantle or not. Check out the two covers below:

  • The Legion of Doom, Teen Titans Academy, Max Mercury’s Wild West origins, and more! Wally West’s leaps from speedster to speedster throughout time draws to a close as he begins to realize why he’s been sent on his quest by the Speed Force and what might be behind it. But with one last stop before he’s allowed to go home, will this journey break Wally forever or return him to glory?

In the background of the cover art, a ball of Speed Force energy electrocutes a range of heroes. Presumably, the heroes that Wally killed in Heroes in Crisis. His trip across time and space will see him realizing why the Speed Force has sent him. It’ll allow the new Flash to reflect back on his past, whilst allowing him to move on. Although, as the solicitation teases, it’s a make or break situation for Wally. It’s likely that this will lead to what happens in the preview pages for this issue, with Wally retiring and passing up on the mantle of the Flash.

In the variant cover by Brett Booth, Wally suits up alongside Roy Harper, who he once killed. It emphasizes the quest that Wally will be going on, speeding to many time periods, taking a look at the lives of lots of different speedsters. Surrounding the centered present-day versions is many alternate iterations of the duo and it looks like Wally might just be able to come to terms with what he did to Roy. Whether the newly returned Harper will reunite with his killer hasn’t been revealed, but the covers heavily hint at it. The Flash #768 will be available in comic book shops and on digital platforms on June 15.
