The Flash Season 3: Jesse Quick Actress Confirms Her Return

The CW’s DC Comics shared TV universe has come a long way since Arrow first premiered in 2012. The flagship DC hero was joined a few years later by Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) before he spun off into his own series in The Flash. In the past year, The Flash and Arrow have been joined by Legends of Tomorrow and, more recently, Supergirl. However, one of the most talked about aspects of The CW’s DC TV universe during the summer hiatus has been the season 2 finale of The Flash that set the stage for the series to explore Flashpoint.

In DC Comics, the Flashpoint storyline followed Barry Allen as he woke up in an alternate reality that was caused when he went back in time to save his mother. Since The CW’s Flash season 2 finale featured Barry doing just that – not to mention the season 3 premiere episode is titled ‘Flashpoint’ – fans can expect the show to look different when it returns. However, many season 2 cast members will be joining Team Flash in season 3, including Jesse Wells (Violett Beane).

In an interview with TV Line, Beane confirmed Jesse will return in The Flash season 3, saying, “I know I’ll be back, but I don’t know if it’s with or without powers.” She’ll be joining her on-screen father Tom Cavanagh, who was confirmed to return earlier this year.

Jesse Quick running in DC Comics

Toward the end of season 2, both Jesse and Wally West (Keiynan Lonsdale) were hit by lightning from the particle accelerator when the STAR Labs team were attempting to give Barry his speed again. But, unlike Barry, neither Jesse nor Wally displayed signs that they had become speedsters – though there was a spark of something when Barry woke Jesse from the speed force-induced coma.

Speaking about her own reaction to Jesse’s season 2 storyline and what could happen in season 3, Beane said:

“When Jesse got hit, I was like ‘It’s happening! It’s happening!’ There was the spark when she got out of the coma, but… it didn’t happen, and I was like, ‘No!’ I’m very excited [to play a speedster], and would love for it to happen early next season. … With the whole Flashpoint, anything can happen, right? It’s literally open to any different kind of false reality. She could be Earth-One Jesse, she could be a speedster… Who knows!”

Of course, Beane makes a good point that there are plenty of possibilities for the character of Jesse when season 3 arrives. Last we saw of both Jesse and her father Harrison Wells (Cavanagh), they were returning to Earth-2 by way of the original Jay Garrick – a doppelgänger of Earth-1’s Henry Allen played by John Wesley Shipp. So, fans have never met the Earth-1 version of Jesse.

Flash Finale Time Travel Explained

Depending on what effect Barry’s act of saving his mother will have on the universe and how the show adapts the Flashpoint storyline (though Jesse doesn’t appear in the comics’ Flashpoint), it remains to be seen what will change in Beane’s character from season 2 to 3. But, no matter the differences in character, the actress herself – and likely many fans as well – are hoping to see Jesse Quick realized as a speedster in The Flash season 3.
