The Flash Extended Trailer Teases the Aftermath of Flashpoint

[WARNING – This article contains SPOILERS for The Flash season 3 premiere.]

Last night in The Flash season 3 premiere, Barry experienced Flashpoint – an alternate timeline of his own making, created when he traveled back in time and saved his mother from the Reverse-Flash. At first, everything seemed great: his parents were alive, he had scored a date with Iris, and Wally was handling all the superhero-ing as Kid Flash. But soon, the perfect life Barry thought he had began falling apart: Joe was a worthless drunk, Cisco an entitled jerk billionaire, and Caitlin was barely even in the picture.

By the end of the premiere, Barry decided he needed to fix the mess he created – which unfortunately for him, meant relying on his worst enemy to again murder his mother. The deed done, Barry and the Reverse-Flash return to the present where everything seems normal – only it isn’t. The one difference we know for sure is that Joe and Iris haven’t spoken to one another in years, hinting at some as-of-yet unknown issue that caused a riff between the formally close-knit father and daughter.

That likely won’t be end of the changes caused by Barry’s tampering, and in this new trailer, it’s clear Iris and Joe’s feud isn’t all that’s different. Check out the extended trailer (above) for a tease of just how ‘Flashpoint’ will continue affecting The Flash season 3.

As if Barry needed further reminding, Jay Garrick says to him near the start of this trailer that “there are consequences to time travel.” Season 3, it seems, will be all about exploring those consequences. Some of which don’t seem all that bad, like Earth-2’s Harrison Wells having a sense of humor! But whether the changes are mostly good or bad, Jay has more wisdom to impart: “Are you just going take a do-over every time you make a mistake, or live with them and move forward?

You’d think by now Barry would have realized it’s never as simple as changing just one event; there are always ripples, cascading outward and altering even the tiniest things. This is the season that Barry needs to accept what’s happened to him, no matter how tragic or unfair, because learning from the past and letting it make you stronger is a big part of being a hero.

What are you most looking forward to from season 3’s altered timeline? What changes do you think will have the most devastating effect? Let us hear from you in the comments!
