The Flash, Arrow, Legends of Tomorrow & Supergirl Get Premiere Dates

The CW’s shared superhero universe officially launched in 2012 with Arrow, followed by The Flash in 2014 after Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) was introduced in Star City alongside Oliver Queen (Stephen Amell). However, the number of DC Comics television series included in the universe has doubled in size since the beginning of 2016, with the premiere of Legends of Tomorrow as well as the addition of Supergirl – with the latter joining both the superhero multiverse and the network itself.

Though season 1 of Supergirl aired on CBS, the superhero drama has since been renewed for a second season that will air on The CW. Additionally, though The CW announced Supergirl will remain in the Monday night slot earlier this year (with fellow DC Comics series maintaining their same time slots as well), we didn’t know when the shows would return for new seasons – until now.

ComicBook.com is reporting that The CW has announced premiere dates for its four superhero series. The Flash leads the pack, debuting its third season on Tuesday October 4th at 8pm, with Arrow season 5 premiering the following night, Wednesday October 5th at 8pm. Then, the Legends of Tomorrow team will board the Waverider for season 2 on Thursday October 13th, and the network’s newest addition, Supergirl, debuting its second season on Monday October 17th at 8pm.

Of course, the biggest thing to note here is that the shows won’t all be debuting in the same week and will instead be staggered over the course of three weeks, with The CW’s two most established series, Arrow and The Flash, kicking off the premiere train. Though that means fans of the network’s DC Comics superheroes won’t be able to spend four nights a week with their respective shows until later in the month, The CW does seem to prefer spacing out the dramas. This past spring, the finales were staggered as well – Legends of Tomorrow wrapped up its freshman season a week prior to The Flash and Arrow.

Still, once all four shows premiere on The CW this fall, the network’s 8pm timeslot will feature a DC Comics-based superhero series in four of its primetime slots. With the network having created such a massive comic book universe on television, Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl are already planned to meet in what CW president Mark Pedowitz called the “biggest” TV crossover event – though it remains to be seen what that event will entail (and whether there will be singing involved).

Aside from the crossover, though, all of The CW’s superhero shows are gearing up to begin production for their new seasons. Supergirl recently added new characters, including Tyler Hoechlin (Teen Wolf) as the show’s Superman; Arrow has found its villain for season 5; The Flash set up a Flashpoint storyline in its season 2 finale that will lead to a “different” season 3; plus, Legends of Tomorrow teased the Justice Society of America and has added new heroes to the Waverider team. So, there is plenty for fans to look forward to for when The CW’s DC Comics superhero shows return in October.
