A new The Exorcist: Believer image highlights the disturbing possession makeup. Taking place in the same world as the classic 1973 film The Exorcist, The Exorcist: Believer tells the story of two girls – Angela and Katherine – whose families enlist intervention from a priest after they appear to show signs of possession. The movie is directed by David Gordon Green, who brought audiences the modern day adaptation of Halloween in 2018, followed by its sequels Halloween Kills and Halloween Ends. The Exorcist: Believer release date is slated for an October 6.

As a concerned family member looks on, a young girl sits at a dining table with a disfigured face. She looks far from human as her matted hair recedes and gouges are formed around her mouth. How Will The Exorcist: Believer Compare to The Original?
The Exorcist remains one of the most classic and influential horror films of all time. Scenes from the original film that shocked 1973 audiences – such as when Regan’s bed starts violently shaking – are still scaring viewers to this day. Regan’s possession makeup became an iconic image from the film, as her eyes bugged out and her face swelled.
With the new look into this The Exorcist sequel, it looks like the film could rival the original in its special-effects scares. Unlike Regan’s possession makeup, this look from The Exorcist: Believer takes a slightly more realistic approach. Instead of the possessed child looking outlandishly creepy, this makeup is more subtle, with the hints at the character’s transformation present in smaller ways such as with disheveled hair and facial discoloration.
The image does ensure one thing: The Exorcist: Believer will be creepy enough to get under one’s skin. The Exorcist is a tough act to follow, even with its outdated makeup techniques. In the hands of a director like Green, who has ample experience building out the world of 1970s horror fare from his Halloween work, The Exorcist: Believer just might be able to pull it off. Whether it stands up to the original or not, The Exorcist: Believer is sure to scare.
