The DCU’s Teen Titans Movie Is The Perfect Introduction For The DCEU’s Forgotten Justice League Member

The DCU’s Teen Titans movie is the perfect opportunity to introduce one of the DCEU’s Justice League characters whose story wasn’t executed correctly. Little is known about the recently announced Teen Titans movie, except that Ana Nogueira will pen the screenplay. The roster is unknown, meaning speculation is starting about who will be on the team. When the Teen Titans first started, the team included Kid Flash, Robin, Aqualad, and Wonder Girl. However, the team most viewers are familiar with, thanks to the animated projects, consists of Robin, Cyborg, Raven, Starfire, and Beast Boy.

Many of these young heroes could be introduced into the DC Universe cast through this team, except for Robin, who will be introduced in the DCU The Brave and the Bold movie. It’s a mystery regarding which characters James Gunn and Peter Safran will want in Teen Titans, but they should use this opportunity to introduce Cyborg. Cyborg is a member of both the Teen Titans and the Justice League, but Teen Titans would be perfect for his DCU debut.

Victor Stone a.k.a. Cyborg is a human-robot hybrid who was created by his father after an incident left Victor near death. He is incredibly intelligent and strong, along with possessing many electrical abilities. One of the more interesting aspects of Cyborg is how he deals with typical teen problems while struggling with his newfound identity. Being a teenager is hard, and it’s clearly even harder for someone who becomes a cyborg who fights crime.

While Cyborg is an essential member of the Justice League in many iterations of the team, he is also conventionally a member of the Teen Titans, and this is where he should make his DCU debut. Since Victor is generally characterized as a teenager, surrounding him with other heroes his age allows him to grow alongside them, especially since his friends would be dealing with similar issues.

Giving Cyborg a place in the Teen Titans would also allow the more vulnerable side of his humanity to shine, as Victor is more likely to open up to his peers than the likes of Batman or Superman. Additionally, this way audiences can connect to him before he potentially joins the Justice League, leaving the possibility open and ensuring that if the hero does move teams, he’s already well established.

Cyborg made his DCEU debut in Justice League, but the film only glossed over his tragic backstory and complex relationship with his father. Joss Whedon’s cut largely pushed Victor to the sideline, and only wanted to use him for cool “Booyah” moments. Zack Snyder’s Justice League included more scenes showing why Victor’s an interesting character, but because of how poorly the theatrical cut portrayed him, Ray Fisher never returned to the role and Cyborg’s time in the DCEU was done. However, it’s clear the potential was there, and the DCU can capitalize on this within Teen Titans.
