The newly revealed logo for Superman does not look like the letter S as much as previous incarnations have. Instead, the top and bottom of the letter blend directly into the red border around the yellow shield.

This makes the symbol on the shield itself look more like a red stripe across the shield. It has been pointed out that this logo looks a bit closer to the one Superman wears in the DC story “Kingdom Come”, further suggesting the story and its distinctive take on the Man Of Steel may be utilized as inspiration for the new movie.

Having a new logo for the DCU Superman is good for a variety of reasons. It allows audiences to be able to distinguish between live-action versions with very minimal effort, as this shield looks very different from the iteration in Man of Steel or the one Christopher Reeve wore as Superman. This new symbol is also good because it solves the issue of it supposedly being a Kryptonian symbol.
