The CW launched its DC Comics shared universe in 2012 with the premiere of Arrow, which later introduced the Central City forensic scientist Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) before the character was spun off into his own series, The Flash. This past season, heroes and villains established on Arrow and The Flash received a spinoff titled Legends of Tomorrow, an ensemble time travel drama set in the CW’s shared DC universe. More recently, it was announced that Supergirl, which was co-created by CW’s DC TV universe architect Greg Berlanti, will be moving from CBS to The CW starting in Fall 2016 – the move arrives after Supergirl was established to be part of the the DC TV multiverse earlier this spring.
The CW has already announced the renewals of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and eight other series on the network. But, at The CW’s upfront presentation, the network announced the schedule for the 2016-2017 season.
The Wrap is reporting that The CW’s established DC Comics series will remain in their timeslots from the 2015-2016 season, with Supergirl taking over its CBS timeslot on The CW – pushing Crazy Ex-Girlfriend to Friday. Take a look at The CW’s schedule (all times in ET; new series in bold; new timeslots in italics):
- Monday: 8:00 Supergirl; 9:00 Jane the Virgin
- Tuesday: 8:00 The Flash; 9:00 No Tomorrow
- Wednesday: 8:00 Arrow; 9:00 Frequency
- Thursday: 8:00 Legends of Tomorrow; 9:00 Supernatural
- Friday: 8:00 The Vampire Diaries; 9:00 Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Fellow Berlanti creation Riverdale, the new show based on Archie Comics that The CW recently ordered to series, will debut at the midseason along with returning dramas iZombie, The 100, The Originals, and Reign. As for the new series, No Tomorrow follows the risk-averse Evie (Tori Anderson) and free-spirited Xavier (Joshua Sasse) as they attempt to check off everything on their “Apocalyst” before the apocalypse arrives. Meanwhile, Frequency is a new take on the 2000 sci-fi thriller and follows Detective Raimy Sulliven (Peyton List) who communicates with her father 20 years in the past through a ham radio.
Certainly, the most notable aspect of The CW’s Fall 2016 schedule is that the network is now anchored with four DC Comics television series in the 8pm timeslot. With the addition of Supergirl, The CW now has four series based on DC Comics superheroes, and additional comic book-based series in midseason replacements iZombie and Riverdale. Though the conversation of superhero fatigue may begin to come up in regards to The CW’s lineup, comic book fans may welcome the superhero-heavy schedule.
Of course, in addition to superheroes, The CW has an incredibly diverse lineup. From their take on the telenovela in Jane the Virgin, to musical comedy Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, to its new series No Tomorrow and Frequencey, the network features an array of genres and tones that will surely keep many viewers entertained.

Supergirl returns for season 2 in the fall on The CW. The Flash airs Tuesdays at 8pm on The CW, Arrow in the same timeslot on Wednesdays, and Legends of Tomorrow on Thursdays.
