However, despite its popularity, the miniseries isn’t guaranteed a sequel, considering the story’s conclusive ending. The first season of The Crowded Room followed Danny, a man on trial for his part in a New York City shooting in 1979. The story was based on the real-life case of Billy Milligan, a man on trial for sexual assault who was acquitted due to his disassociative identity disorder.

In the fictional version of the tale, Danny’s story is likely over, and The Crowded Room ended when Danny ended up in a state-run mental health facility, where he fused all his identities except for one that he felt he owed. There is still a chance for The Crowded Room season 2, and other miniseries have been fleshed out if the demand is high enough. However, it sounds like it will be a different story with different characters.

The Crowded Room Season 2 Recent News

The most recent The Crowded Room season 2 news is that the first season has ended, and it seems that the story of Danny Sullivan concluded along with it. With that said, the end of Danny’s story does not mean the series can’t get a second season. Apple TV+ called The Crowded Room an anthology series which means that there could be new characters and stories, similar to True Detective or Fargo, but in the world of courtroom drama.

However, Danny’s story being apparently over doesn’t mean there’s nothing to spiritually follow from The Crowded Room‘s legacy. Akiva Goldsman, the mind behind The Crowded Room, has mentioned the possibilities of a “spinoff” to The Crowded Room, rather than a straight sequel or an anthology series. His thought was, instead of following the same kind of story in the new season, he could follow two of the characters from the first season – Rya and Stan.

“[Stan] brings with him his own guilt and the feeling of self-blame, which is so central to this whole piece. I guess, ultimately, it’s about what we blame ourselves for and how important it is to forgive ourselves — and to forgive those around us after that — because this kind of guilt that we carry, this kind of shame that we carry, that we see in the mirror, is so debilitating.”

The Crowded Room Season 2 Is Not Confirmed

The Crowded Room season 2 has not been renewed yet. Apple TV+ has several metrics it looks at when deciding on renewing or canceling a series. However, unlike a streaming service like Netflix which has countless projects in development or production, Apple TV+ keeps its lineup smaller, so if it does like the reception of the first season, it has a good chance of bringing it back for more.

There is almost no chance that Tom Holland will return to The Crowded Room season 2 cast, at least if his comments so far have been any indication. According to Tom Holland, his experience making the first season of the series wasn’t a positive one. Holland said in an interview that he was proud of the series, and he loved trying something new. He also said he loves being put in uncomfortable situations. However, he made it clear he was not interested in doing anything like this again.

“Crowded Room kind of offered everything that I was looking for. I’d never say never to doing TV again. I’d be lying if I said that The Crowded Room didn’t absolutely break me. So I’d be a little bit hesitant getting back into it. But I’m really proud of the final result”

With that said, there is also the chance that Akiva Goldsman could go with a spinoff idea, where he would continue the stories of Rya and Stan. “I too had this reaction to Chris Abbott, who comes in late to the show. You’re just like, ‘Well, now I just want to watch a show about him and Amanda solving low-stakes murder mysteries in New York.” This could mean that The Crowded Room season 2 cast could include the return of Christopher Abbott as Stan and Amanda Seyfried as Rya.

The Crowded Room Season 2 Story Details

If The Crowded Room season 2 is renewed, it won’t be about Danny Sullivan. However, Apple TV+ has advertised it as an anthology series which means the show could return for a second season but with a very different story. The Crowded Room season 2 story could focus on another possible court case surrounding a medical condition or a troubled past – both of which were part of Danny’s story in the first season.

There is also the chance that Akiva Goldsman could bring the show back for a second season with a spinoff of sorts. Goldsman said that he would love to see Chris (Stan) and Amanda (Rya) just “solving low-stakes murder mysteries in New York.” That would be a very different show, following the intense drama and tension of the first season. With all that said, there will be no idea of what The Crowded Room season 2 will be until it is renewed.
