Now, @TheCrow_Movie has released a teaser for The Crow remake. The teaser shows Eric Draven emerging from a sanguine pool of blood. His tattoos unnervingly glimmer in the translucent bloodsoaked sheen around him.

Will The Crow Overcome Its Early Backlash?

2024’s The Crow is far from the first time that there has been another entry in The Crow franchise, but it is the first film to directly remake the 1994 film. Lee’s performance as Eric Draven in 1994’s The Crow is considered iconic and is part of what made The Crow the cult classic film that it is known as today. Thus, Skarsgård will have massive shoes to fill in taking on the role.

The Original Actor For The Crow’s Eric Draven Would Have Been Wildly Different

Brandon Lee delivered an iconic performance in 1994’s The Crow, but an early casting choice would have resulted in a vastly different movie.

To no fault of Skarsgård himself, the early reactions to The Crow have not been positive. A few weeks ago, the production revealed first-look images of Skarsgård as Eric Draven. Many fans found these images to be almost offensively bad, likening it to the monstrosity of Jared Leto’s cartoonish Joker look for Suicide Squad. A number of people complained that 2024’s Eric Draven had lost his quintessential emo ‘90s look, which drew inspiration from a number of musical artists of the decade.

The Crow trailer will likely prompt similar reactions when it is released in full, as it will give viewers a further glimpse at Skarsgård’s look. On the other hand, the trailer could also give audiences a chance to see some of Skarsgård’s performance in The Crow, which could partially redeem the criticisms of his aesthetic. Either way, the discourse surrounding The Crow will be ripe over the coming days.
