The Conners Season 6 New Intro Completes Its Roseanne Character Erasure

The Conners Season 6 New Intro Completes Its Roseanne Character Erasure

Warning! Spoilers ahead for The Conners season 6 premiere.

The Conners season 6 debuts a brand new intro and effectively completes its erasure of an original Roseanne character. After an extended hiatus due to the dual Hollywood strikes of 2023, Dan and the rest of the Conners clan are back on the small screen. Faced with brand new challenges on the heels of The Conners season 5’s events, the ABC sitcom also underwent a couple of changes during the off-season — not to mention fears of ending with season 6 due to ominous comments from some people involved in the project.

Now that the beloved Lanford clan is back, they are set on moving forward toward a future full of hope amid all the difficulties that life has to offer. The Conners season 6 premiere, “Live From Lanford,” focuses on the passing of the torch at The Lunch Box, after Jackie decides to relinquish managerial duties to Harris. Meanwhile, Dan and Darlene go on a road trip to Chicago. Both of these will propel subsequent plots, but even before The Conners season 6 properly begins, it already features a big but easily easy-to-miss change.

Ahead of its much-delayed premiere, The Conners season 6 drops a massive clue that the upcoming year won’t solve its biggest Dan issue.

The Conners Season 6 New Intro Removes Mary

Ahead of The Conners season 6 premiere, it was announced that Jayden Rey, who plays DJ’s daughter Mary, will not be returning as a series regular. Despite not being a major player in the comedy, she was supposed to be living, at least part-time, with his paternal grandfather, up until then. However, with Michael Fishman departing The Conners after season 4, ABC seemingly deemed Mary unnecessary to still be part of the ensemble. Her exit from the Roseanne spinoff is reflected in the new The Conners season 6 intro, in which the character is removed.

Mary was the final link that ties DJ to his family and childhood home in Lanford. While it has never been clarified why Fishman was let go from The Conners, his daughter’s presence in the series, as negligible as it was, kept the door open for Dan and Roseanne’s youngest kid to return and reunite with the rest of the clan. Now that The Conners has pretty much removed all traces of Mary in the series, it effectively completes the erasure of DJ from the ABC offshoot.

Will DJ And His Family Still Return In The Conners

The conners season 5 Dj absence

Despite previous assumptions, The Conners may actually continue with season 7. This means that there will be more opportunities for ABC to bring back DJ and his family if they decide to do so. Unlike what went down behind the scenes, DJ’s The Conners absence is more straightforward, so it shouldn’t be that difficult to reincorporate them into the show. Perhaps they can all come together and join the extended clan when Bev inevitably dies — a tragedy that has been brewing for a while now. Otherwise, it could also just be for a simple homecoming.

After the Roseanne revival was canceled in 2018, The Conners continued the storyline of the lovable middle-class family and their lives in the fictional town of Lanford, Illinois.
