The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin Cast & Character Guide

The Completely Made-Up Adventures Of Dick Turpin Cast & Character Guide

The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin has an expansive cast, with certain figures only making brief cameos while its other stars remain in the limelight. Certain actors in the production are well-known on the British entertainment scene, but other figures aren’t quite as established as their co-stars. Either way, most have been cast for their ability to augment the lead actor’s dry-yet-zany sense of humor that runs through the show.

The Dick Turpin lead actor isn’t just restricted to his portrayal of the titular character, as he also has writing credits on the first two episodes as well as being an executive producer. The show’s creative team is an all-star group that has worked on some of the best British sitcoms of all time, like The Royle Family and The Inbetweeners. The irreverence of The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin is part of what gives the show its appeal, along with its cast.

Apple’s New Dick Turpin Show Maintains A Clever Real-Life Casting Connection For Noel Fielding

Certain actors in Apple’s new Dick Turpin show might be familiar to fans of British comedy, but there’s one casting in particular that’s very coy.

Noel Fielding As Dick Turpin

Actor: Noel Fielding burst onto the scene in 2004 with his trippy comedy show, The Mighty Boosh. The show was nominated for various awards during its three-season run, including “Best TV Show” at the NME awards three times in a row. Since the show ended, he has mainly transitioned into TV hosting and voice roles in prominent properties. Fielding also dabbles in stand-up comedy.

Notable Movies & TV Shows: The Mighty Boosh (2004-2007), The IT Crowd (2006-2013), The Lego Movie 2 (2019), Disenchantment (2018-2023). Fielding also took over hosting duties for The Great British Bake Off in 2017.

Character: Fielding plays a highly fictionalized version of the notorious highwayman, Dick Turpin. Fielding’s iteration of the character, while charming, begins the show fairly new to a life of crime but escapes being hanged for his deeds. Fielding’s Turpin escapes his execution, which isn’t true of the real historical figure. As such, everything after this scene becomes especially fantastical when compared to reality.

Mark Wooton As Moose Pleck

Mark Wooton as Moose Pleck looking sad and angry in The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin

Actor: Wooton is primarily a stand-up comic and writer, but has landed parts in various comedy shows and movies through the years. His most notable role is as Mr. Poppy in the Nativity! film series. However, he has also lent his voice to animated characters, as well as making appearances as himself on British gameshows. He is also known to invent alter egos for his stand-up comedy routines.

Notable Movies & TV Shows: Gavin & Stacey (2008), Nativity! (2009-2014), Drunk History: UK (2015-2016).

Character: Wooton’s character of Moose Pleck is a part of the Essex Gang, the group that’s taken over by Dick Turpin after he kills Tom King. Moose is a fairly nervous and sad individual under King’s rule, but he grows in self-confidence with Turpin in charge. He has an almost child-like energy and becomes very enthusiastic at even the slightest triggers he’s exposed to.

Ellie White As Nicholas “Nell” Turner

Actor: Ellie White’s acting career is mainly in the field of comedy, although a few of her acting credits take her outside the genre. She has been acting since 2009, but she has something of a journeyman career. However, she has had longer runs on certain shows, such as 2016’s Year Friends and The Windsors (2016-2023). She also starred alongside Timothée Chalamet in 2023.

Notable Movies & TV Shows: The Windors (2016-2023), The Black Mirror (2023), Wonka (2023).

Character: Nell was also under Tom King’s rule before Dick Turpin entered the fray. However, it was only after the death of the former leader of the gang that it was discovered that “Nicholas” was actually a woman. She isn’t drawn in by Dick Turpin’s charm as the other members of the Essex Gang are, and her loyalties are called into question early into the show’s run.

Duayne Boachie As Honesty Courage

Actor: Boachie spent most of his acting career in one role before being cast as Honesty Courage in The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin. Playing the part of Zack Loveday, Boachie was part of the cast of a British soap opera and appeared in over 240 episodes. Although he has had a few credits since his final appearance as Zack in 2019, Honesty Courage is his first major role since.

Notable Movies & TV Shows:Hollyoaks (2015-2019).

Character: Honesty is completely enamored with Dick Turpin from the moment the two men meet. On more than one occasion, Honesty has declared Dick to be the “Best man in the world.” He is loyal and resilient, spending time as the driver of the Unrobbable Coach against his will. He’s also instrumental in saving Dick from being hanged during the Essex Gang’s rescue.

Dolly Wells As Elize Bean

Actor: Wells burst onto the scene in 1997 when she made her acting debut in the long-running cop drama, The Bill. Since then, the actor has moved on to star in a wide range of TV shows, including several comedies. Wells made it big in 2001 when she appeared as Woney in Bridget Jones’s Diary, a role that she did not reprise in the sequel but returned for the trilogy’s final film.

Notable Movies & TV Shows: Bridget Jones’s Diary (2001), The Mighty Boosh (2007), Peep Show (2003-2008), Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016), Bridget Jones’s Baby (2016).

Character: Elize Bean is a writer who interviews Dick Turpin on several occasions so his adventures can be chronicled and made available to her readers. Although she acts with journalistic integrity, it’s clear she’s impressed with Turpin as a man – especially during his daring escape from the gallows. The real Dick Turpin did become legendary after his death due to stories such as these, so Elize is likely loosely based on a real-life figure.

Hugh Bonneville As Jonathon Wilde

Hugh Bonneville as Jonathon Wilde in The Completely Made-Up Adventures of Dick Turpin

Actor: Bonneville has an incredibly impressive résumé, appearing in several huge British properties. While most will know Hugh Bonneville from his time as part of the main cast of Downton Abbey (2010-2015), he has also appeared in other enormous British franchises such as, but not limited to, James Bond and Doctor Who. He’s also appeared in the Paddington movies, as well as returning as part of the Downton Abbey: A New Era cast for the 2022 movie.

Notable Movies & TV Shows:Tomorrow Never Dies (1997), Doctor Who (2011), Downton Abbey (2015).

Character: Jonathon Wilde is heavily based on a historical figure, whose own name is only slightly different: Jonathon Wild. While Bonneville’s version of the show’s antagonist is a more comical interpretation of the real man, both versions operate on either side of the law. Bonneville’s Wilde introduces himself as the “Thief-Taker General,” a title also shared by his real-world counterpart. He tries to arrange a deal with Fielding’s Turpin, but it falls apart.
