The Challenge: Why Fans Want to See More Competitors Like Devin Walker

Devin Walker-Mologhan has been a standout competitor on The Challenge: Double Agents. But, not so much for his athletic ability as his confrontational demeanor and outspoken personality often has him at odds with the others in the house.

His villainous role on The Challenge is nothing new for the MTV star. He made his inception on the network competing on season three of Are You the One?. He then competed in The Challenge: Rivals III where he made it as a finalist before losing to Johnny Bananas and Sarah Peterson. He returned to compete again in XXX: Dirty 30, Vendettas, Champs vs. Stars, and Final Reckoning, before making his latest return in Double Agents. In the current season, he’s made his presence known and aimed to get into player’s heads by causing conflict in the house in between challenges. While he’s not well-liked in the house, Devin remains unbothered while continuing his antagonizing toward the other players.

But, fans don’t seem to mind and have been praising Devin for his antics on the show. One fan took to Reddit to explain, “The reason I like Devin.” In the thread, the Redditor applauded Devin’s “sarcasm and underdogness” in the game. They also credited him for never coming off “scared. Whether it be going into elimination, getting into an argument/egging someone on, or anything else, he is just like f*** it, bring it on.” After causing a stir in the house for referring to Amber as a “lay up,” Devin notably acknowledged himself for not being the strongest competitor in the game. It was a move the fan also noted him for. “He knows he’s not the best and that he’s a “lay up” (even though he’s 4-1 in elims), but he takes things as it is and gives us entertainment and gives us a sense of realism that is so often lacking on the challenge,” the fan added.

They ended their nod toward the returning player by asking for his return next season. “Please bring Devin back more often, we need more competitors that aren’t built different but also not total slouches,” the said. Another fan left a comment saying how though they once “hated” Devin, he’s now become their “favorite.” They applauded him for not taking the competition too seriously, “because it’s just a TV show,” they explained.  They went on to credit him for being “a breath of fresh air compared to some people’s attitudes that the game is life or death.”

If producers of the show are paying attention, it’s obvious that viewers are here for all the drama Devin seamlessly brings to the competition. Fans are hopeful for his return next season.
