The Boys: The 10 Best Characters, According To Ranker

The Boys: The 10 Best Characters, According To Ranker

The third season of The Boys is already off to a flying start, with Hollywood A-lister Charlize Theron making yet another superhero cameo as a version of Stormfront, and Jensen Ackles’ Soldier Boy finally making his debut. Even better is Ant-Man’s parody, Termite, who indirectly demonstrates how easy it would have been to defeat Thanos.

Interestingly, despite bossing Season 2 with her shocking moments, Stormfront doesn’t make the Ranker list for the best characters on the show. But who does? Well, there are plenty of familiar faces. Most of the fan-voted standout characters o the list consist of key members of The Seven and The Boys.

Note: Ranker lists are subject to change due to their live-voting feature so the list may not match what currently is on Ranker.

The Deep

The Boys: The 10 Best Characters, According To Ranker

A parody of Aquaman and Namor the Submariner, The Deep can breathe underwater and communicate with amphibious creatures. He briefly gets kicked out of The Seven due to backlash from the public before being reinstated by Homelander.

The Deep’s conflicted nature often makes him wimpy but it’s because of it that he’s an engaging character. He is never quite sure whether to settle for being evil or whether he ought to be a dedicated member of The Church of The Collective. He isn’t just interesting character-wise but appearance-wise too as he has actual gills on his abdomen, And even though he doesn’t get as much screentime as the rest of The Seven, he can boast of having one of the best scenes of the show where he commanders a whale and pursues The Boys.

Hughie Campbell

Hughie walks into the Vought International towers in order to confront A-Train in The Boys

Hughie joins The Boys to get payback after the speedster A-Train accidentally runs over and kills his girlfriend while chasing criminals. As he tries to bring down Vought International, he begins a new relationship with Starlight.

Depicted as the everyday guy, Hughie is the easiest character to relate to. He isn’t overly confident or valiant hence viewers always get the feeling that he’d rather be doing something else. Still, he understands the importance of the mission and always tries to get out of his comfort zone and get the job done. Most importantly, he has become a symbol of love, with him and Starlight growing into one of the best couples on The Boys.

Black Noir

Black Noir in The Boys Season 2

Known for his martial arts skills, Noir is the ever silent assassin of The Seven. He was previously a member of Payback before being hired by Stan Edgar.

Thanks to his extraordinary skills, Noir always makes every fight scene a quality one. And he definitely ought to be lauded for being the only person to incapacitate Kimiko. But as brutal as he is, Noir’s nut allergy makes him easier to sympathize with. Additionally, he has been used to highlight the struggles of racism as it was recently revealed that he keeps his mask on to hide the fact that he is Black.

Queen Maeve

An image of Queen Maeve smiling in The Boys

Queen Maeve’s similarities with Wonder Woman are easy to notice. These range from their origin stories to their costumes. Maeve is also a feminist, humanitarian, and member of the LGBTQ community

Maeve is likable because she isn’t amoral. Unlike her colleagues, she knows the difference between right and wrong hence she always tries her best to avoid doing things that hurt others.  Sadly, her hands are ever tied, making her unable to do anything about the injustices she witnesses, including Homelander’s decision to let a plane crash. Through her, the importance of inclusivity is also emphasized.

Starlight

Starlight looking intently in The Boys.

Having dreamt of joining The Seven ever since she was a child, Starlight soon learns that the group isn’t what she expected. She, therefore, conspires with The Boys to bring it down.

Depicted as the girl next door, there is hardly anything not to love about Starlight. She is kind, compassionate, and reasonable. She never hesitates to stand up against oppressors either and as such, even Supes like Homelander have come to respect her. And despite having powers, she doesn’t see herself as better than normal humans, a perspective that leads to a wholesome romantic relationship with Hughie.

Homelander

Homelander cheering on a crowd in front of flag in The Boys

As one of the most powerful members of The Seven, Homelander enjoys being a bully. A Superman parody, he is gifted with most of the special abilities that the Kryptonia has.

Thanks to his peculiarities and shocking actions, Homelander has become one of the best modern-day TV villains. Whether it’s pushing his son from a roof or pleasuring himself on top of a skyscraper, there is no psychotic he won’t do. Additionally, his heated arguments with his Vought International boss Stan Edgar have resulted in some of the show’s best quotes.

Kimiko, aka, The Female

Kimiko looking angry in The Boys

After serving in the Shining Light Liberation Army, Kimiko gets smuggled into the US where she becomes one of the people injected by Compound V in an attempt to create supervillains. However, she breaks free and chooses to do good.

Kimiko’s unpredictability is what endears her to fans. Since she doesn’t speak, it’s never easy to figure out what she’s going to do. On many occasions, she follows her instincts rather than rely on an operating procedure set up by The Boys. And she is such a brilliant combatant that the police even think her salon massacre is a well-coordinated gang hit.

Mother’s Milk

After his father dies while trying to expose Vought, Milk vows to continue his journey. He joins The Boys before quitting to live a quiet life but is later persuaded to return.

Milk’s detective skills tend to benefit the group greatly. Thanks to him, The Boys can locate A-Train’s Compound V stash as well as find out where Kimiko is hiding. He is great at keeping his colleagues in check too as he is the only one who normally gets to call them out whenever they go out of line.

Billie Butcher

Billy Butcher in The Boys Season 2

The leader of The Boys is a former British special forces member who has a vendetta against Homelander. This stems from the fact that the Super sexually assaulted his wife, Becca.

Often taking an ends-justifies-means approach, Butcher always does everything he can to try and bring down Vought International. That’s why he goes as far as to take the V24 to be as powerful as the Supes. His high intellect has also made it difficult for Homelander to come up with a way to defeat The Boys.

Frenchie

Frenchie looking worried in The Boys

Frenchie is arm-twisted by Mallory into becoming a member of The Boys after the discovery that he can make weapons to counter Supes’ powers. As a member of the team, he becomes close to Kimiko.

Frenchie impresses by having a wide criminal skill set. He can manufacture drugs, break into highly secure weapons and create complex weapons. He is an intensely empathetic and remorseful person too, so much so that he still feels sorry about the lives he took during his past life as a hitman.
