Amazon Prime Videos’ hit series, The Boys, is finally returning with season 3 on June 3, and it already promises even more bizarre and fun superhero madness. Fans cannot wait to see what has happened with their favorite superheroes and villains, as Vought and the Seven are desperate to restore their public image, while The Boys have taken a backseat to their personal ventures.
The season 3 trailers have revealed that the feud between the Supes and The Boys is far from over. These revelations include forewarnings of a dangerous new threat and Homelander close to losing his sanity. As fans prepare for the premiere with three episodes, the trailers still leave some questions about what could unfold in season 3.
Will Homelander Be Completely Unhinged?
Homelander desperately attempts to clean up the Stormfront controversy by elucidating that any superhero can make the mistake of falling in love with the “wrong woman.” He is at the lowest point of his superhero career after a miserable defeat against The Boys in season 2. To add insult to injury, his biological son picked Butcher over him.
Homelander seems he will snap at any moment, and even Starlight is heard in the background reiterating the sentiment that Homelander may lose his sanity. Of course, given this insight, what will drive him over the edge, and what could an unhinged Homelander spell for the world?
Could Stormfront Show Up?
Stormfront was season 2’s primary antagonist who became an ally and lover to Homelander. By the season finale, she suffers a PR disaster due to the exposure of her real identity as a racist, white supremacist, and Nazi. Of course, with little left to lose, Stormfront confronts The Boys, only to be decimated by Ryan.
As of this point, Stormfront is still alive and locked up in an unknown facility. Of course, because of her close association with Homelander, she is referenced immensely throughout the trailer. It would be interesting to see Stormfront’s current state since season 2, but it remains uncertain if she could appear in season 3.
What Has Strained Hughie & Butcher’s Friendship?
There is no denying that Hughie and Butcher have a brotherly-like relationship, having gone through highs and lows in their friendship. Unfortunately, the trailer reveals incredible tension between the two characters since season 2.
It is unclear what caused the rift, but there are a few clues that could fill in the gaps. The potential reasons could stem from Hughie’s new job with Victoria Neuman to Butcher still coping with Becca’s death, which may have resulted in the two friends drifting apart and ending on poor terms. Of course, another trailer takeaway is that The Boys get back together, so Butcher and Hughie eventually have to put their differences aside to save the world again.
Can Queen Maeve Continue To Keep Homelander In Check?
Queen Maeve seemingly has a greater presence in season 3, especially as the one Supe overlooking the Seven and keeping Homelander in check. Of course, this comes after Queen Maeve played a huge part in season 2, allying with The Boys to overpower Stormfront and essentially saving Butcher and Ryan’s life by blackmailing Homelander.
Even though Queen Maeve is the one Supe who can keep Homelander in place, there is only so much she can do to keep the peace at Vought and even protect the remaining members of The Seven. Some trailer moments even show that Homelander starts to intimidate the remaining members. It is only time before Queen Maeve’s insurance against Homelander becomes futile.
What Will It Take For The Boys To Reunite?
In season 2, things ended well for The Boys with their names cleared and accomplishing their mission to expose Vought’s corruption. Furthermore, all the members parted ways on their own ventures.
Despite their triumph against Vought, many like Butcher and Hughie continue to counterattack the corrupt company but in different ways. Unfortunately, the difference in the methods may have created a clash between the members. Nevertheless, the trailer shows scenes in which members slowly reunite and prove again why they are The Boys‘ bravest characters.
Will We Learn More About Victoria Neuman?
Victoria Neuman was introduced in season 2 as a vocal Congresswoman who actively opposes the supes. Despite how Victoria portrays herself to the public, she secretly is a supe and a powerful, destructible one who can combust heads.
Hopefully, season 3 will dive more into Victoria’s true intentions considering she recruited Hughie at the end of season 2. The trailer already clues potential tension between Victoria and Starlight, which leaves questions about Victoria’s real scheme.
How Did Queen Maeve Get Her Hands On This Special Compound V?
Perhaps one of the more shocking revelations is that Butcher displays laser-enhanced powers like Homelander’s, which finally levels the playing field between the two foes. Of course, the latter trailer disclosed that Butcher obtained these powers due to a special Compound V serum.
There are more questions than answers about this temporary Compound V concoction aside from it giving temporary powers for 24 hours. But, it is unclear about the origins of the serum and how Queen Maeve came into possession of this temporary Compound V.
Are We Getting A Musical Episode?
While things are about to get crazy in this superhero-filled world, the upcoming season 3 promises some fun surprises, including a possible musical. A few trailer moments show that Frenchie and Kimiko are dancing with other patients and staff workers at a hospital.
Season 3 might have a musical episode, although the scenes have only featured Frenchie and Kimiko. While this seems unusual, The Boys could join a list of several TV series that have experimented with a musical episode, such as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Riverdale. While this is only speculation, these scenes could also hint at other events like a possible dream sequence.
What Could A Free Soldier Boy Imply About The Stakes?
Of course, the most exciting thing about season 3 is the appearance of the powerful supe, Soldier Boy, played by Supernatural‘s Jensen Ackles. Most diehard fans know that Soldier Boy is Marvel’s Captain America counterpart, even embodying the patriot elements and cryogenically freezing for many decades.
So far, the trailer has not disclosed much of Soldier Boy aside from his past as a Payback member. Furthermore, some trailer moments show Soldier Boy free in the modern world, but it is unclear if he poses a serious threat to the civilian population.
Who Are The Boys Biggest Threat?
The Boys have their hands full as they face a threat in every direction. While The Boys have to neutralize Vought and Homelander from their corrupting schemes, they also have to watch their backs against new potential villains like Victoria Neuman and Soldier Boy.
Season 3 could set up a future plotline and develop upcoming villains, although a fourth season has yet to be confirmed. Even though the trailers do not clarify the main big bad, season 3 promises dangerous fun.
