The Book of Boba Fett Actor Addresses Potential Star Wars Return After The Mandalorian Season 3 Snub

Speaking exclusively to Screen Rant, Ming-Na Wen has addressed the future of her character Fennec Shand, who was snubbed in The Mandalorian season 3 after the popular and critical failure of The Book of Boba Fett. The first spinoff from The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett was intended to set up Temuera Morrison’s Boba Fett and Ming-Na Wen’s Fennec Shand for their future in this particular Star Wars time period. Unfortunately, the TV show was poorly received, and there’s been no news of The Book of Boba Fett season 2. The characters were even surprisingly omitted from The Mandalorian season 3.

Speaking exclusively to Screen Rant at the Saturn Awards red carpent, celebrated actress Ming-Na Wen addressed Fennec Shand’s Star Wars future. “I am always grateful for any gig that comes my way,” she replied optimistically, “and Star Wars [was] an ultimate dream come true for me. I’m hopeful, and I’m greedy for more. Any nuggets they give to me, I will put on Fennec’s outfit in a second. Anytime.” This matches with previous comments from Wen, suggesting her eagerness has not dampened with time.

Fennec Shand’s Star Wars Story Needs To Continue

Fennec Shand in Star Wars The Bad Batch

There may be no word on Fennec Shand in live-action, but Ming-Na Wen will reprise the role in Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3 – an animated TV show that already feels as though it’s something of a prologue for Fennec Shand. The Bad Batch is set earlier in the Star Wars timeline, meaning it features a younger and less experienced – although already formidable – bounty hunter. The decision to explore Fennec’s backstory suggests she has the potential to be an important character going forward.

Ming-Na Wen, of course, is a tremendous actress and an asset to Star Wars. Her character may have sat out The Mandalorian season 3, but it’s surely only a matter of time before she’s brought back in the New Republic Era – whether in a TV show or even on the big screen. Sadly, though, it seems viewers will just have to be patient, because Wen’s comment isn’t positive in the short-term.
