The Boogeyman Director Rob Savage Teases Sequel Idea & Haunted House

The Boogeyman, an adaptation of the Stephen King short story of the same name, follows the Harper family in the wake of tragedy. Sadie and her younger sister Sawyer are grieving their mother as their father, Will, buries himself in his work as a therapist. When a new patient arrives at the house without an appointment, desperate for help, Will is hesitant but agrees. However, the patient brings with him a demonic entity that insidiously infects the house and feeds on the Harpers’ grief while sowing seeds of fear and turmoil.

The Boogeyman is directed by Rob Savage from a script penned by Mark Heyman, Scott Beck, and Bryan Woods based on a story by Beck and Woods. The Boogeyman includes an all-star cast led by Sophie Thatcher, Chris Messina, Vivien Lyra Blair, Marin Ireland, LisaGay Hamilton, and David Dastmalchian. The Los Angeles Haunted Hayride also has a photo opportunity that gives visitors the chance to step into Sawyer’s room and have their own Boogeyman moment.

Screen Rant was able to check out The Boogeyman photo opportunity at the Los Angeles Haunted Hayride and quickly catch up with Rob Savage after his experience. He breaks down what he would like a full haunted maze to look like for The Boogeyman. Savage also shares new details about plans for The Boogeyman sequel, comparing it to Halloween 2.

Rob Savage Goes Beyond The Boogeyman

The Boogeyman Director Rob Savage Teases Sequel Idea & Haunted House

Screen Rant: What was your favorite part of going through the photo op and getting to live The Boogeyman experience?

Rob Savage: It was so weird being back in Sawyer’s room again. I didn’t know they were going to recreate the trees on her wall and the look of her bed and all that kind of stuff. It’s been so long since I was there filming it. About a year ago we filmed that scene. So it was really surreal and a little bit creepy to step back in there.

If it was expanded into a full kind of haunted house what would the scene from the movie be that you would want it to go through?

Rob Savage: I’d love that to be a Boogeyman maze. I think you’d have to start in the kid’s room from the beginning where the Boogeyman creeps up on the kid in the cot, and then you’d probably end down in the basement with the Boogeyman and have to face it off with the Christmas lights flashing. That’d be so sick.

And then last question, you kind of teased that you guys have plans for a sequel. Would you be kind of following the monster, the final girls, or pull more of a Halloween where they would both come back?

Rob Savage: It would be a bit, I’m gonna try to doit without spoiling it. It would be a bit Halloween 2. So it feeds in to the story of the Harpers from the first movie, Sadie’s character and her family, but comes at it in a slightly different way. So we’re not following the monster. We’re not following the family.

We’re telling another story that kind of intersects and kind of bolsters the story we told in the first movie, but from a completely unique perspective. So I hope everyone watches this on Blu-ray and Hulu. I hope we get to make a sequel if there’s enough desire for it. We’ve got a great idea.
