The Best Rock-Type Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet

The Best Rock-Type Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet

This is for the trainers that want to rock out with the best Rock-type Pokémon in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. While not the fastest of Pokémon, Rock-Types can be relied on to have great Defense and good Special Defense Stats, and they become even tougher in sandstorms with immunity to their damage and boosted Special Defense. Their biggest weakness is their vulnerability to Fighting-, Grass-, Ground-, Steel-, and Water-types, but they balance it with strength against Bug-, Fire-, Flying-, and Ice-types.

The end of the Nacli evolution line, Garganacl, is a great place to start. The Rock Salt Pokémon has a very good spread of stats; with 100 HP, 100 Attack, 130 Defense, and 90 Special Defense, it can wade through enemies with a well-placed Stone Edge or Rock Slide. In addition, the Purifying Salt Ability makes it immune to status conditions and effectively Resistant to Ghost-type attacks. But while sturdy, this guy is just the start.

Strongest Rock-Types in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

The Best Rock-Type Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet

For a surprise offensive, players don’t need to look much further than the tried and true Tyranitar in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. A Rock-/Dark-type has 600 Base Stats, leaving on Speed and Special Attack below 100, and brings the Sandstorm field effect with it thanks to the Sand Stream ability. While it has seven type-weakness, 4x for Fighting, it has just as many strengths and amazing moves that can crush anything before it. The player needs to tank through the blows.

A much less vulnerable but fearsome choice is Glimmora, a surprise Rock-/Poison-type that looks like a Grass-type. Its focus lies in its 130 Special Attack, which it can use to get an enemy poisoned with utility moves and further chip away at their health with Ancient Power or Power Gem.

The last and best of the choices, however, is the Paradox Pokemon Iron Thorns in Scarlet and Violet. This Rock-/Electric-type Pokémon can and will hit like a truck if it gets an attack off, especially with Quark Drive boosting its 134 Attack by 50%. A well-used Rock Slide, Wild Charge, or Earthquake can end the battle all too quickly. Its biggest flaw is that players won’t get it until Pokémon Scarlet and Violet’s endgame.
