The Batman writer Mattson Tomlin is teaming up with Chloe Grace Moretz for his upcoming sci-fi thriller Mother/Android. Tomlin is a screenwriter behind two big superhero movies, Matt Reeves’ upcoming The Batman and Netflix’s Project Power, starring Jamie Foxx and Joseph Gordon-Levitt. Despite being a relatively new name in Hollywood, Tomlin is already establishing himself in the sci-fi/action film genre. In May, Paramount purchased Tomlin’s original screenplay 2084, which has been described as a spiritual sister to George Orwell’s 1984 and follows the story of a couple who begin an uprising in a totalitarian society. Now Tomlin has a new sci-fi project in the works.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Tomlin is making his directorial debut with his new Miramax sci-fi thriller Mother/Android with Chloe Grace Moretz set for the lead role. The project is Tomlin’s second collaboration with Reeves, who will produce the film under his 6th & Idaho Banner. Tomlin, who also wrote the script, says the story is loosely based on his birth parents, who fought to keep their child safe amid the Romanian Revolution. Mother/Android is a deeply personal story inspired by sacrifices made to bring me into this world,” said Tomlin. “I’m thrilled to be working with Miramax and my friend Matt Reeves to tell a story that speaks to the strength of humanity in the darkest of times.”

Moretz, known for her roles in Kick-Ass and Neighbors 2, is set to star as Georgia, a young woman who, with her boyfriend Sam, goes on a journey to escape their country, which is at war with artificial intelligence. The couple must face No Man’s Land amid the android uprising to reach safety while days away from the birth of their first child. The film will also be produced by 6th & Idaho’s Adam Kassan and Raafi Crohn along with Charles Miller and Miramax’s Bill Block.
