The Batman Is Helping Robert Pattinson Survive Lockdown

The Batman is helping star Robert Pattinson survive his coronavirus lockdown – literally. The highly-anticipated DC movie began production earlier this year, but was forced to shut down in March due to the growing coronavirus pandemic, which has halted virtually all ongoing film and television shoots. As The Batman had only completed about 25% of filming before the shutdown and still has no indication of when it will get to resume, Warner Bros. shifted the film from its original June 2021 release date to October of the same year. Luckily, it seems like the October date better suits The Batman, since the film’s writer Mattson Tomlin promised it fits the film’s tone.

Pattinson, best known for his role as Edward Cullen in the Twilight films, initially seemed like a surprising choice for the role of Bruce Wayne when he was cast. Since then, however, fans have warmed to the idea and are excited to see his take on the iconic character. Director Matt Reeves has promised a different kind of Batman film, one that has a noir-ish vibe and digs further into Batman’s skills as a detective. Plot specifics are still unknown, but The Batman‘s supporting cast has been rounded out with several familiar characters, including Alfred (Andy Serkis), Jim Gordon (Jeffrey Wright), and Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz).

For the time being, however, the Batman set remains closed, and its stars are in lockdown like the rest of the world. In an interview with GQ, Pattinson spoke about how he’s living out his self-quarantine in the apartment the Batman producers rented for him. Making things easier is the fact that his meals are also supplied by the Batman folks, which is actually quite helpful for Pattinson. He explained, “I’m essentially on a meal plan for Batman. Thank God. I don’t know what I’d be doing other than that.”

Pattinson isn’t the only Batman star carrying on with a particular regimen during the shut down. Kravitz revealed she’s still working out and staying in shape, though she admitted she eats whatever she wants. This seems to be an amusing opposite from Pattinson, who said in the GQ interview that he’s done hardly any physical activity.

Hopefully The Batman will be allowed to resume production sooner rather than later, but it all depends on the safety of those involved. Reeves commented on the shutdown not long after it happened, saying they will wait to start up again until it is safe for everyone to do so. Because of that, it still might be another month or so before that happens. Luckily, it sounds like Pattinson is faring all right for the time being, and will be ready to don the cowl again when the time comes.
