The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes Theory Connects Lucy Gray To A More Logical Character Than Katniss

The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes Theory Connects Lucy Gray To A More Logical Character Than Katniss

There have been numerous The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes theories that connect Lucy Gray to Katniss Everdeen, however, there is a more logical theory that connects Lucy Gray to another character in the franchise. As the main characters of the prequel and the original The Hunger Games trilogy, it can be tempting to try and fit Lucy Gray into Katniss’s story. With nearly 75 years between The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes and The Hunger Games, it’s hard to find a concrete connection between the two characters, but Lucy Gray could be related to someone else from the trilogy based on their histories.

There are many parallels between Lucy Gray and Katniss in The Hunger Games, the most obvious one being that they are the only female victors from District 12. Yet, with what happened during the 10th Hunger Games and Lucy Gray’s fate at the end of The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, all evidence of her was wiped from Panem, though she lived on through her songs and rebellious spirit. Where Lucy Gray ended up and whether she even survived wasn’t revealed in the books and films, leaving plenty of room for theories regarding her character and possible relations to others in The Hunger Games series.

The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes Theory Reveals Lucy Gray Is Related To President Coin

Though it may be more difficult to find a relation between Katniss and Lucy Gray, one major The Ballad of Songbird & Snakes Theory says that President Alma Coin could be Lucy Gray’s daughter. Coin was the president of District 13, having grown up there. Most readers and viewers who believe Lucy Gray survived also believe she ended up in District 13 after The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. If this were the case, she could easily be Coin’s mother based on their ages and the time between Lucy Gray’s disappearance and Coin’s birth.

While Katniss became a symbol of the revolution through her participation in The Hunger Games, President Coin was its leader in Mockingjay. By growing up in District 13, Coin was always in opposition to the Capitol and had been secretly biding her time to put an end to Snow’s rule. If Lucy Gray were President Coin’s mother, her hatred of and vendetta against Snow would have the added context of Coin trying to avenge her. It can be assumed that Lucy Gray died before The Hunger Games trilogy began, but she could have left children behind to continue her legacy.

Lucy Gray’s Potential Coin Connection Makes More Sense Than The Katniss Theories

The Ballad Of Songbirds & Snakes Theory Connects Lucy Gray To A More Logical Character Than Katniss

The Hunger Games timeline means it wouldn’t make sense for Lucy Gray to be directly related to Katniss. Additionally, for Lucy Gray to have survived after The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes, she would have had to leave District 12, where Katniss was born and raised. Another Hunger Games theory suggests Katniss is related to a different member of Lucy Gray’s Covey people, Maude Ivory. This, along with the theory about Lucy Gray and Coin’s connection, is more plausible in comparison to Katniss and Lucy Gray being related in The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes.
