The Bachelor: Most Memorable Blindsides In Franchise History

Over the years, there have been multiple women who have been blindsided by The Bachelor. The contestants never see it coming, especially once they make it to the final four. The lead tends to be good at making each contestant feel special even if they know deep down this isn’t the person they want to be with.

When The Bachelor premiered in 2002, no one could have guessed it would become the phenomenon it is today. Not only have they created multiple spin-offs of the show, but they also branched out internationally. There have been spin-offs in Canada, Australia, and even Vietnam. Even though the series has become this huge success, contestants still go on thinking they will win the heart of the lead.

While blindsides are harder to come by these days with Reality Steve spoiling endings for all who are interested, there is still the occasional twist that catches everyone by surprise. For a show that can at some times feel very predictable, there are more than a few moments that brought the jaws of Bachelor Nation to the floor. Fans likely remember when Jason Mesnick chose Molly over Melissa or when Brad Womack selected no one at the final rose ceremony his first time as the lead. There are several others that stick out.

Becca Kufrin

At the end of season 22 of The Bachelor, Arie Luyendyk picked Becca Kufrin over Lauren Burnham to get down on one knee and propose. Becca was excited to spend the rest of her life with the man she fell in love with. However, after two months of engagement bliss, Arie broke up with Becca after he felt he made a mistake by choosing her over Lauren. To make matters worse, viewers had to watch the breakup unfold on TV during one of the couple’s secret getaways. Becca has since been engaged again, to Garrett Yrigoyen, but that did not work out either.

Clare Crawley

Clare was dumped during the final rose ceremony when she appeared on Juan Pablo’s season. At the time, she was certain he would pick her over Nikki Ferrell. Instead of getting down on one knee, Juan Pablo did not treat Clare well when he was breaking up with her, saying he didn’t know her enough to propose. Clare made history when she walked off, claiming, “I would never want my children having a father like you.”

Caila Quinn

Caila was blindsided by Ben Higgins after she was sent home during fantasy suite week. She went out of her way to pay Ben a special visit where she bared her soul and told Ben she was in love with him. Ben proceeds to tell Caila he was in love with the other two contestants and not her, so he sent her home. “There are different stages of grief. The first one that hit me was anger,” she revealed to People after her shocking elimination.

AshLee Frazier

Sean Lowe’s second runner-up, AshLee Frazier, was completely blindsided when he sent her home after the fantasy suites. During the Women Tell All special, AshLee called Sean a fake “frat boy,” while the now father of three fired back that she wasn’t fun enough to make the final two. AshLee also accused him of confessing to her that he didn’t have feelings for either of his final two. Sean is now married to his final pick, Catherine Giudici, and the pair have three children together.

With the new season of The Bachelor less than a year away, there is a good chance more than one woman will be blindsided by the lead. While it may be hurtful at first, there is a good chance the one who was heartbroken will be in the running for The Bachelorette.
