The Answer To Ms. Marvel’s Biggest Mystery Seems Obvious

The Answer To Ms. Marvel’s Biggest Mystery Seems Obvious

Warning: Spoilers for Ms. Marvel episode 5

The mystery of what Ms. Marvel’s bangles are is being dragged out to the end of the season, yet the answer to it feels so obvious. Over the course of the show’s story, Kamala Khan has learned quite a lot about who she really is, but the origin of the bangles is one thing that’s being kept under wraps. What they are is a reveal that Ms. Marvel appears to be holding back, presumably for its final episode.

The bangles are at the center of Ms. Marvel’s story because they’re what drives its most important change and ultimately what’s making her superhero journey possible. Instead of keeping her Inhuman origin from the comic books, the Disney+ series has swapped her original powers for the bangle, which has triggered latent abilities that Kamala never knew she had. With it, she can generate blasts of “hard light” and essentially serve as Marvel’s answer to Green Lantern. Later episodes revealed that the bangle gives Kamala access to energy from a mystical realm known as the Light Dimension.

The show has offered some big reveals about the bracelet’s capabilities, but its true name, who made it, what its purpose is, and how it connects to Marvel Comics haven’t been properly addressed yet. How Ms. Marvel has been slowly building up to these explanations is rather interesting, especially since the comic books make the answer to this mystery seem so easy to figure out. In Marvel Comics, a character known as Quasar wielded the Quantum Bands, bracelets that closely resemble the bangles and share the exact same Green Lantern-like powers. And like the bangles, there’s two of them. Given that the bangles look and act like the Quantum Bands, it seems only reasonable that they are the MCU’s Quantum Bands.

What The Quantum Bands Would Mean For Ms. Marvel’s MCU Story

The Answer To Ms. Marvel’s Biggest Mystery Seems Obvious

Ms. Marvel finally confirming that the bangles are the Quantum Bands – and Kamala getting her hands on the second one – would have massive ramifications for her MCU future. It was established in Quasar’s comics that the Quantum Bands were the property of an ancient cosmic entity known as Eon. In the interest of combating intergalactic threats, Eon would pick out a worthy candidate and declare them the Protector of the Universe. The person who gets this title also receives the Quantum Bands to help them fulfill their cosmic duties. If Kamala has the Quantum Bands, there’s a good chance that her finding them wasn’t an accident. It may have been the destiny chosen for her by Eon himself. If that’s true, Kamala may be the MCU’s very own Protector of the Universe.

Kamala getting Quasar’s comic story in Ms. Marvel would help explain why she’s in The Marvels. Eon’s chosen champion and the wielder of the Quantum Bands possesses an ability called Cosmic Awareness. Thanks to this power, Quasar was able to get himself involved in a number of intergalactic crossovers. Whatever villain that Captain Marvel faces in The Marvels could end up attracting Kamala’s attention for the same reason.
