The Abbott family is not confirmed to return in A Quiet Place 3, and leaving them out would ruin the franchise. John Krasinski helped launch the A Quiet Place franchise in 2018, which saw the movie become a critical and financial hit. A Quiet Place 2 repeated this success and guaranteed that a third installment would come. A Quiet Place 3 movie is already in development but details now on what — and more importantly who — it will contain are still coming to light.
The first two A Quiet Place movies revolve around the Abbott family, with Krasinski and Emily Blunt playing the parents Lee and Evelyn, while Millicent Simmonds and Noah Jupe play their children Regan and Marcus. However, the cast for A Quiet Place 3 might be a different story. Simmonds has mentioned that she’s not sure if she’s coming back, putting the role of the Abbots in question. This could be because the young actress isn’t allowed to confirm her return for the next film or that the future A Quiet Place movie is a spinoff instead. No matter what the explanation is, A Quiet Place 3 needs to bring back the Abbott family.
There are a lot of factors that have helped make the A Quiet Place franchise a success, but the roles and relationships of the Abbotts, as well as the performances of the actors, are huge factors. The world and mythology that A Quiet Place created are terrific, and so too are the creature designs, Krasinski’s direction, and the excellent use of sound. However, the Abbott family is the true heart of the franchise. Leaving them out of A Quiet Place 3 would be a huge mistake that could risk ruining the franchise’s story. The Abbotts have to return to bring closure to their story, with Regan specifically positioned as the central character of the entire series through two films.
A Quiet Place 3 not bringing back the Abbotts would leave their story in a very unsatisfying place, too. After Lee’s death at the end of the first movie, A Quiet Place 2 followed Evelyn, Regan, and Marcus as they left the Abbott family farm. This led them to meet Emmett (Cillian Murphy), and he and Regan traveled to find more survivors and a radio station that can broadcast the sound thatrepels the monsters. They are successful in that regard, but A Quiet Place 2‘s ending leaves Regan and Emmett separate from Evelyn and Marcus. A Quiet Place 3 must show the Abbott family reunited and bring some resolution to their story.
As long as the Abbott family returns for A Quiet Place 3 and wraps up their arcs, then the franchise should be in a good position to move past them. This world is primed for various spinoffs, as A Quiet Place 2 set up multiple spinoffs of its own. Yet, those ideas shouldn’t come at the expense of the Abbott family or shift the focus away from them right away. Even if it doesn’t happen right away, A Quiet Place 3 needs the Abbott family.
