The A24 of Comics: DSTLRY’s Latest Cover Art for GONE & SOMNA Deserves to Be Framed (Exclusive)

The latest cover art for DSTLRY’s first two series, Gone and Somna, proves that the publisher is well on its way to becoming an “indie darling” in the comics world. Screen Rant can exclusively reveal upcoming incentive variant covers for Gone #3 and Somna #3, both available this coming March.

Gone, a science fiction epic from the mind of writer/artist Jock, follows a young woman named Abi who has lost herself in the depths of space. Becky Cloonan and Tula Lotay’s joint venture Somna, meanwhile, follows another young woman named Ingrid, who finds herself at the mercy of a monstrous erotic dream during the height England’s witch hunts. The two books are distinct in style and story, but they share a clear love of the comics medium as DSTLRY’s first two series push the boundaries of genre storytelling. Check out the full slate of incentive variant covers, featuring the work of superstar artists, below.

“Smash the Corruption!”: GONE’s Action Heats Up in Exclusive Preview & Cover Art for Jock’s New Series

In an exclusive preview shared by DSTLRY, the action in new sci-fi series by Jock really heats up as a young girl finds herself very far from home.

DSTLRY Is Already a Home for Genuinely Stunning Art

DSTLRY is one of comics’ newest publishers, but it has already had a strong first year. After announcing an innovative publishing model that prioritizes creators in both storytelling and the business itself, the publisher also announced a thrilling “first class” of founding creators, including a few names familiar to lovers of superhero comics — like Jock, Cloonan, and Lotay. Even before publishing a single page of artwork, DSTLRY was making waves in the comics industry, and it has generated even more buzz in the months since, especially after launching the first issues of Gone and Somna.

In an earlier interview with Screen Rant, Jock shared his hope that readers would start to see DSTLRY in the same light as the film production company A24, which has become known for both its quality of movies and its willingness to embrace both the strange and the heartfelt. As DSTLRY continues to announce unique new series — many of them teased in its first anthology The Devil’s Cut #1 — and to reveal cover art like what Screen Rant has shared above, from artists familiar to American comics readers and perhaps even artists outside their comfort zones, this new publisher is beginning to earn its desired reputation.

Gone and Somna Lead DSTLRY’s Boundary-Pushing Comics Line

Gone #1 and Somna #1 were two of the strongest first issues of 2023 from any publisher, and hopefully DSTLRY will lean into its early strengths in the coming year, especially as its output expands. It’s genuinely refreshing to see a publisher prioritizing beauty and aesthetics, especially in a visual medium like comics, and the cover art for these upcoming issues suggests that aesthetics are indeed an essential part of DSTLRY’s publishing model and artistic mission. Art lovers of all kinds need to check out DSTLRY’s books, and hopefully DSTLRY itself will continue to be an attractive home for all kinds of comics artists.

Gone #3 is available March 27th, and Somna #3 is available March 20th, both from DSTLRY.
