Things are desperate on Earth as Mistress Vile attacks, with Rangers from different universes and civilians alike teaming up to keep the carnage at bay, but some special objects may be the key to keeping the planet safe… even if it won’t last for long. As Billy and the HyperForce Rangers rush to repair the Master Arch, they’re only able to pull a single ally from the heart of the Morphin Grid as Dark Specter’s power grows…

This follows Tommy’s recent capture by the villain, who – in the latest issue #114 (Melissa Flores and Simona Di Gianfelice), tried to corrupt Tommy into becoming a soldier in his dark army. So far, the White Ranger has remained a hero, and it seems that in a few issues, he may be the last Ranger standing when it comes time to take the fight to Dark Specter.

The White Power Ranger Is Taking on Dark Specter

Tommy Oliver Could Decide Power Rangers’ Darkest Hour

After retrieving Vessel – the physical form of the Power Rangers’ leader Zordon – Mistress Vile was able to summon Dark Specter to the material plane, spreading the villain’s influence throughout the Morphin Grid. Across time and space, different Ranger teams are finding themselves corrupted, joining Dark Specter’s army whenever they transform. To help the remaining heroic Rangers escape Specter, Tommy Oliver stayed behind to fight the villain’s forces, and is now a prisoner of the Specter and Vile.

Thankfully, it doesn’t look like Dark Specter will be turning Tommy to his side anytime soon. The solicit info for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #116 promises “In the race to reach the Master Arch, the last Ranger anyone expected is the only one to arrive,” with a pensive Tommy Oliver on the cover. The implication is that as darkness falls, the White Ranger will fight alone, taking on Dark Specter in an ultimate clash of hero and villain.

Is This the White Ranger’s Swan Song?

Power Rangers’ Darkest Hour Needs Major Consequences

While fans don’t yet know how Darkest Hour will end, this solicit info makes it clear that the White Ranger is at the heart of what’s touted as the franchise’s most ambitious arc yet. If ever there was a time to let the White Ranger ride off into the sunset, doing so after staring down the biggest antagonist the Rangers have ever faced would be the perfect opportunity. Tommy Oliver has appeared in multiple iterations of Power Rangers, and there’s no-one who more deserves to lead them safely out of their Darkest Hour. However, such leadership is likely to come at a cost, and it’s unlikely Darkest Hour will end without costing the Rangers something big.

As Mighty Morphin Power Rangers continues to put the Rangers through their Darkest Hour, the White Ranger is the champion they need – but can even he survive a direct clash with Dark Specter?

The next entry in Darkest Hour is Mighty Morphin Power Rangers #115, coming December 27 from Boom! Studios
