The 8 Best Siblings In The MCU

The 8 Best Siblings In The MCU

The latest MCU streaming series, Ms. Marvel, has introduced fans to one of the franchise’s most lovable sibling characters. Whereas Kamala Khan struggles to connect with her parents across the generational gap, she has an adorable friendship with her older brother, Aamir. Aamir acts as a sort of middleman between Kamala and her overbearing mom and dad.

Aamir is just the latest in a long line of loving siblings in the MCU. Thor always thought the world of Loki, despite his many betrayals; Gamora reconciled with Nebula after learning that she just wanted a sister; and Shuri provides T’Challa with all his vibranium-powered superhero gadgets (and plenty of insults about his shoes). From Wanda Maximoff to Natasha Romanoff, there are a ton of great siblings in the MCU.

Aamir Khan

The 8 Best Siblings In The MCU

Kamala Khan doesn’t have the best relationship with her parents in Ms. Marvel. She constantly butts heads with her overbearing mother, although there’s a clear undercurrent of love in every argument, and she struggles to connect to her father, despite his best efforts.

But Kamala does have a great relationship with her older brother, Aamir, who’s always happy to lend an ear and give her advice. In classic big brother fashion, Aamir cracks a lot of jokes that are more likely to make his sister roll her eyes than laugh. When Kamala is trying to communicate with her parents, Aamir offers up his services as a mediator.

Gamora

Gamora hugs Nebula in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2

Throughout the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie and the majority of the second one, Nebula was determined to vanquish her adopted sister, Gamora. But, as it turns out, there’s no real hatred between the two. Their rivalry is a result of Thanos forcing them to fight each other for his approval throughout their childhood.

During Nebula’s climactic showdown with Gamora on Ego’s planet, she confesses, “You were the one who wanted to win and I just wanted a sister!” In one of the Guardians franchise’s most heartwarming moments, Gamora and Nebula reconcile with a hug. Finally, after years of fighting, they can just love each other as sisters.

Sarah Wilson

Sam and Sarah talk in the Falcon and the Winter Soldier

While The Falcon and the Winter Soldier wasn’t perfect, it did a great job of rounding out Sam Wilson’s life outside the Avengers. Fans met Sam’s sister, Sarah, a single mother who runs the family fishing business with her sons in Louisiana.

Throughout the series, Sarah represents Sam’s connection to his childhood in the South. As he struggles to decide whether he can take on the responsibility of the Captain America mantle, Sam confides in Sarah, who provides invaluable advice.

Wanda Maximoff

Wanda and Quicksilver in WandaVision

Since her twin brother Pietro was killed off in the same movie that introduced him, Marvel fans didn’t get to see a lot of interaction between the Maximoff twins. But the flashbacks in WandaVision revealed their tragic backstory. After their parents were killed in a bombing, Wanda and Pietro only had each other for company.

When they were eventually picked up by Hydra and imbued with superpowers, they faced that together, too. Wanda’s love for her brother is expressed through her grief in the MCU projects following his death.

Shuri

Shuri in her lab in Black Panther

T’Challa’s younger sister Shuri isn’t necessarily the kindest of all the MCU siblings. She relentlessly mocks her brother for everything from the sandals he chooses to wear in her underground lab to the way he freezes up during his superhero antics. But she’s easily the smartest and most resourceful Marvel sibling.

Shuri designs all the vibranium-powered tech that T’Challa takes on his Black Panther missions. If she hadn’t given her brother a bulletproof suit that absorbs kinetic energy, he wouldn’t be anywhere near as effective as an Avenger.

Xu Xialing

Xialing as the Ten Rings new leader in Shang-Chi's post-credit scene

When Shang-Chi first reconnects with his sister Xialing, she kicks his butt in an underground fight club. But this dust-up ended up paving the way for the siblings to rekindle their bond. Xialing is still mad at Shang-Chi for leaving home and not coming back for her like he promised.

But, by the end of the movie, Shang-Chi has earned Xialing’s forgiveness. They team up in the finale to ride a lake dragon into battle with a soul-consuming interdimensional monster.

Natasha Romanoff

Nat and Yelena standing in rubble in Black Widow

The long-awaited Black Widow solo movie revealed that Natasha Romanoff was once a part of an Americans-style family of Soviet spies planted in the U.S. suburbs during the Cold War. When their identities were discovered, Nat and her surrogate sister Yelena Belova were sent to the Black Widow program.

Throughout their Red Room training, before they went their separate ways to go on spy adventures, Nat always kept an eye on Yelena and made sure she was safe. In the final battle, Yelena returns the favor and embraces her older sister.

Thor

Loki and Thor in the first Thor movie

No matter how many times Loki betrays Thor or endangers Asgard, the God of Thunder will never turn his back on his mischievous brother. The trickster god has always doubled down on his scheming ways, because he always assumed Thor was disappointed in him.

But, during a fateful elevator ride on Sakaar, Thor tells his brother, “Loki, I thought the world of you.” Tom Hiddleston nails the look that Loki gives in this scene. Hearing these words from Thor means everything to him.
