The 13 Most Memorable Star Wars Quotes From Attack Of The Clones

The 13 Most Memorable Star Wars Quotes From Attack Of The Clones

Star Wars has some of the most enduring quotes ever, and some of the best come from Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones. The second Star Wars movie chronologically, Attack of the Clones saw the Jedi at their prime, just years before Order 66 would strike them down. Many of Attack of the Clones‘ best characters were also in the prime of their youth, which made it one of the most energetic installments in the prequel trilogy. That youthful energy also translated to their delivery, which helped make some of their quotes truly iconic.

Quotes become memorable for a variety of reasons, from the way they’re delivered to the words themselves, and the quotes in Attack of the Clones are no different. Whether it’s Ewan McGregor’s sassy and funny delivery as Obi-Wan Kenobi or the awkwardly written lines Hayden Christensen powered through as Anakin Skywalker, many of them have been remembered by viewers. The most memorable quotes from Attack of the Clones are those with the most enduring legacy to this day, either due to their humor, delivery, or importance to the plot, over 20 years after its release.

In the Star Wars prequel trilogy’s Attack of the Clones, George Lucas had to cover a lot of plot points before the animated show could take over.

Anakin Skywalker’s Attempt At Complimenting Padmé Amidala

“So have you. Grown more beautiful, I mean. Well, for a senator, I mean.”

The entirety of the Star Wars prequel trilogy was criticized for its often odd dialogue, and Attack of the Clones didn’t escape those critiques. One of the most awkward lines came from Anakin and Padmé’s reunion after 10 years, and Anakin’s attempt to compliment her. Anakin’s quote became memorable due to its awkwardness, but it also works within the context of the story. It was one of the few times Anakin’s extremely young age and inexperience showed through, and it’s still remembered as one of his more endearing moments.

Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader Split By a Lightning Bolt

Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader

Conceived by the will of the Force itself, Anakin Skywalker was the prophesied Chosen One, destined to bring the Force into balance. Anakin struggled to balance competing attachments to the Jedi Order and his wife Padmé Amidala, and ultimately fell to the dark side, becoming Darth Vader. For years he served as Palpatine’s right hand man, but he was ultimately redeemed by the faith of his son, Luke Skywalker. Now a Force Ghost, Anakin continues to act as an agent of balance.

Obi-Wan’s Thoughts On Anakin’s Recklessness

“I hate it when he does that.”

Attack of the Clones introduced some tensions in the relationship between Anakin and Obi-Wan Kenobi that would go on to fuel Anakin’s fall to the dark side. It also showed some of the best aspects of their friendship, though, and Obi-Wan’s quote while watching Anakin jump out of a speeder perfectly encapsulated how close they were. Even when Anakin was overly headstrong and reckless, Obi-Wan still had a soft spot for him and could never be too mad.

Ewan McGregor as Obi Wan in Obi Wan Kenobi TV show

Obi-Wan Kenobi

The Padawan of Qui-Gon Jinn, Obi-Wan Kenobi became a Jedi Knight after his master’s death. Obi-Wan trained Anakin Skywalker as a Jedi, with his own apprentice knighted after the Battle of Geonosis. The Jedi Master became a key player in the Jedi during the Clone Wars, and was heartbroken when Anakin turned to the dark side; Obi-Wan critically wounded Anakin before taking to the shadows, watching over the young Luke and Leia for years. He sacrificed himself for his two charges, becoming a Force Ghost and continuing to mentor them.

Yoda’s Unorthodox Problem-Solving Method

“Truly wonderful, the mind of a child is.”

Yoda has some of the greatest quotes in Star Wars, and more than a few come from his scenes in Attack of the Clones. When Obi-Wan needed to find Kamino, Yoda exercised his wisdom and sought answers from his youngling students. Yoda’s quote showed that he knew wisdom could come from anywhere, even a child, and that he was one of the most open-minded Jedi in the Order.

Yoda

The aged Jedi Master had trained Jedi for 800 years by the time he met Luke Skywalker on the planet Dagobah. One of the most famed and revered Jedi, Yoda served as Grand Master of the Jedi Order for centuries; he was powerful enough to duel Darth Sidious himself, although he was defeated. Yoda exiled himself to Dagobah, where he learned how to become a Force Ghost and offered guidance to Luke Skywalker.

Kamino’s Fueling Of The War Machine

“200,000 units are ready, with a million more well on the way.”

Lama Su was showing off Kamino’s impressive cloning capabilities, but his quote has proven to be more important than simple boasting. The Kaminoans produced millions of clones over the course of the war, and they were one of the most important factors in the fall of the Jedi and the Republic. Lama Su’s quote is so memorable because of Kamino’s role in Palpatine’s plan, and because it helped inspire two Star Wars shows: The Clone Wars and The Bad Batch. The sheer number of clones made viewers naturally curious about them, which gave those shows the following they needed to be made.

9
Obi-Wan’s Foreshadowing Of His Tragic Fate

“Why do I get the feeling you’re going to be the death of me?”

Since the original trilogy was released prior to the prequel trilogy, many viewers already knew where Obi-Wan’s story ended. That didn’t make the journey to his death at Darth Vader’s hands any less heartbreaking, though. Obi-Wan’s quote, which he said to Anakin, was dripping with dramatic irony, which made it tremendously memorable. It also came at the end of a long string of advice he had for his Padawan, which helped make Anakin’s frustrations more understandable.

8
Padmé & Anakin’s Inside Joke

“No, I call it aggressive negotiations.”

Padmé and Anakin’s relationship was often awkward, but it also had a few shining moments. One of those moments came with Padmé’s quote during the First Battle of Geonosis. Padmé’s quote was a response to Anakin’s question, “You call this a diplomatic solution?” and it also referenced an earlier joke they made to each other about Anakin’s penchant for ending debate with his lightsaber. Their inside joke proved that Padmé and Anakin could be incredibly cute together, despite their clunky flirting. That, coupled with Padmé’s blaster skills, made it an incredibly memorable quote.

Padmé Amidala

The elected Queen of Naboo, Padmé Amidala won galactic acclaim for her heroism when she led her people against the Trade Federation. She became an influential member of the Republic Senate, but her life changed forever when she fell in love with Anakin Skywalker. Padmé Amidala found herself torn between her love for Anakin and her belief in the principles of the Republic, especially when Anakin became Darth Vader. She was brutally attacked by Anakin on Mustafar, and died in childbirth.

Anakin Skywalker’s First Atrocity

“I killed them all. They’re dead. Every single one of them. And not just the men, but the women and the children too. They’re like animals, and I slaughtered them like animals. I hate them.”

One of the most shocking moments in Attack of the Clones was when Anakin slaughtered the tribe of Tusken Raiders that killed his mother, Shmi. It was the first of many atrocities he would commit, and an excellent foreshadowing of his dark future as Darth Vader, but his explanation of his actions to Padmé was just as bad. Anakin’s quote showed that he let his hatred consume him, and it also revealed how little he thought of his enemies. He clearly regretted his actions at the time, but it isn’t difficult to see how close Anakin was to losing all respect for life.

6
Yoda’s Recognition Of The Dark Side’s Power

“The dark side clouds everything. Impossible to see, the future is.”

Wise people sometimes have to admit when they don’t know something, and Yoda never shied away from that aspect of wisdom. Yoda’s quote showed that he could see how powerful the dark side was becoming, and that he was smart enough not to be overconfident about his abilities to predict the Sith’s next moves. It also helped explain how the Jedi were so blindsided by Palpatine’s rise to power, and why they didn’t take more measures to prevent it. Yoda’s unique diction also helped his quote’s memorability and made it fun to say.

5
Count Dooku’s Attempt To Warn The Jedi

“What if I told you that the Republic was now under the control of the Dark Lord of the Sith?”

Count Dooku was one of the most tragic villains in Star Wars, and his role in Attack of the Clones made him even more sympathetic. When Obi-Wan was captured while investigating Geonosis, Dooku came to speak with him. During their conversation, Dooku tried to warn Obi-Wan of Palpatine’s growing power, but he wouldn’t listen. Dooku’s quote showed that he was never truly evil, just misguided, and that he wanted to destroy Palpatine just as much as the Jedi did. It became so memorable because it proved Dooku was a villain unlike any Star Wars had seen before.

Count Dooku

The apprentice of Master Yoda, Count Dooku’s interest in prophecy and ancient Jedi texts led him inexorably to the dark side. He somehow discovered the existence of the Sith, and became Palpatine’s apprentice after the death of Darth Maul. Dooku’s inherited title as Count of Serenno gave him vast political influence, which he used as leader of the Separatist movement during the Clone Wars. He was ultimately killed by Anakin Skywalker, realizing too late that Palpatine had tricked him.

Palpatine’s Bald-Faced Lie

“I love democracy. I love the Republic.”

One of the best parts of the prequel trilogy was how it depicted Palpatine’s subtle and masterful political maneuverings. In Attack of the Clones, he perfectly coordinated attempts on Padmé’s life with the growing threat from the Separatists to coerce the Senate into giving him emergency powers. To top off his villainous dealings, Palpatine got in front of the Galactic Senate and lied to their faces about how he would surrender his power. Palpatine’s quote showed how cunning he was and how perfectly planned his takeover of the Republic turned out to be.

Ian McDiarmid as Emperor Palpatine in Star Wars Return of the Jedi

Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious

The senator for Naboo, Palpatine rose to power and influence during the dying days of the Republic. In reality, his public persona was just a mask; he was really Darth Sidious, greatest of the Sith Lords, and he used his political skills and Machiavellian cunning to bring down both the Republic and the Jedi. Palpatine ruled his Galactic Empire for decades, until he was betrayed by his apprentice, Darth Vader. Even this wasn’t enough to stop the Emperor, however, as he was resurrected by his followers – only to be defeated once again.

3
Padmé’s Profession Of Love To Anakin

“I think our lives are about to be destroyed anyway. I truly, deeply love you, and before we die, I want you to know.”

Attack of the Clones is, largely, the story of how Padmé and Anakin fell in love. After being hesitant to confirm her feelings for him throughout the movie, Padmé finally admitted that she had fallen just as hard for Anakin as he had for her. Her quote came moments before they were ushered out into the arena and seemingly certain death, so it makes sense that Padmé would want to get such a huge confession off her chest while she could.

Padmé and Anakin’s relationship was one of the most important parts of his fall to the dark side. What should have been a beautiful love story was corrupted by Anakin’s pride and obsession, and instead became the foundation Darth Vader was built upon. Padmé’s quote sealed their tragic fate, as their love would only continue to grow until Anakin’s fall. With knowledge of what was to come, her admission of love was one of the most bittersweet moments in Attack of the Clones.

2
Anakin Skywalker’s Feelings Towards Sand

“I don’t like sand. It’s coarse, and rough, and irritating, and it gets everywhere.”

Perhaps the most infamous quote in all of Star Wars came from Anakin in Attack of the Clones. Despite its awkwardness, and the decades of jokes that have been made about it, Anakin’s quote speaks to a central part of his character. This quote shows how obsessed with the past Anakin was in Attack of the Clones, and that he never truly stopped being the little boy who was enslaved on Tatooine. He carried the awful memories he had of his childhood through his entire life, and no amount of Jedi training could get him to let go of his bitterness and resentment.

1
Yoda’s Ominous Declaration

“The shroud of the dark side has fallen. Begun, the Clone War has.”

Yoda was one of the wisest Jedi to ever live, and the final line of Attack of the Clones proves why he holds the title of Jedi Grand Master. Where other Jedi saw the First Battle of Geonosis as a resounding victory for the Republic, Yoda saw its true nature. Though he couldn’t see all the pieces well enough to put them together, Yoda could tell that the Clone Wars would be devastating to the Jedi, and that the Sith were stronger than they had been in centuries.

It was a decidedly dark note to end the movie on, but Yoda’s quote was also one of the most memorable moments in the whole movie. It changed the tone of the entire film in its final minutes and segued perfectly into the horrors of war shown in The Clone Wars and the fall of the Jedi shown in Revenge of the Sith. Yoda’s quote summed up the entirety of Attack of the Clones and set an ominous shadow over the future of Star Wars.
