The 100: 5 Ways Bellamy & Murphy Aren’t Real Friends (& 5 Ways They Are)

The 100: 5 Ways Bellamy & Murphy Aren’t Real Friends (& 5 Ways They Are)

Bellamy Blake and John Murphy definitely had an intriguing relationship. Some fans even believed they should have been a couple. While the duo initially started as allies at the Dropship, with Murphy helping Bellamy destroy the wristbands, things quickly changed. They became enemies after Wells died, and their relationship went through different phases as larger enemies found them back on the same side, even if they weren’t friends. Their relationship became more of an alliance for some time before their trip to space.

When season 5 picks up six years later, things have changed for Bellamy and Murphy. No longer just allies, they have become close friends and even consider each other as family. Their time on Earth proves that things between them are in a good place, but that all changes after reaching Sanctum. Alliances and priorities shift in the face of their new enemies, and suddenly Bellamy and Murphy’s friendship changes in ways they hadn’t expected.

Not Friends: Murphy Tried To Hang Bellamy

The 100: 5 Ways Bellamy & Murphy Aren’t Real Friends (& 5 Ways They Are)

As revenge for allowing the Delinquents to hang Murphy and banish him from the Dropship, Murphy took Bellamy hostage in the Dropship. Murphy originally used Jasper as bait, preparing to kill him and waiting for Bellamy to sacrifice himself.

When Bellamy trades places with Jasper, Murphy has Bellamy prepare a noose. Murphy’s revenge doesn’t actually end the way he planned, and Bellamy survives the encounter.

Friends: Bellamy Wants Murphy To Know He Isn’t Worthless

The 100 Murphy and Bellamy in space

After six years in space, the group had become very close. Even Bellamy and Murphy’s stormy relationship had become much more of a friendship than previously. But, unfortunately, Murphy separated himself from the group, believing that he did not have much to offer to get back to Earth or be as useful.

But, Bellamy would not allow Murphy to think of himself as worthless. Bellamy confronts Murphy directly, and their confrontation even results in seeing the Eligius Prisoners ship.

Not Friends: Bellamy Banished Murphy From The Delinquent Camp

Murphy was enraged that so few Delinquents were willing to put Charlotte through the same beating treatment he had just received. So, he and a few others went in search of Charlotte to take revenge. But, while Clarke, Bellamy, and Finn worked to hide and protect Charlotte, she eventually gave herself up.

But, when the altercation ends in Charlotte taking her own life out of grief, guilt, and trauma, the evening ends with one other Delinquent getting removed. Bellamy banishes Murphy, understanding that their group needs order and rules.

Of all his friends, Murphy was the only one that didn’t lose his mind to the effects of the Red Sun. While everyone got sucked into a pit of fear and trauma, Murphy was able to keep a clearer head, especially when Bellamy and Clarke began succumbing to the Red Sun toxin as well.

In Clarke’s state of mind, she is prepared to hurt or kill herself if it meant her friends stayed safe, and Murphy talked her down. Finally, Murphy got Clarke in the clear enough state of mind where the two of them took on Bellamy together. Murphy and Clarke saved each other from Bellamy’s attack.

Not Friends: Murphy Sided With Josephine

Murphy was known as a cockroach and tended to do whatever he thought would continue his survival. So, when he discovered that Clarke had already been body-snatched by Josephine and she offered him a chance at eternal life in exchange for teaching her how to portray Clarke Griffin accurately, he didn’t refuse.

Murphy teamed up with Josephine, and Bellamy considered him a traitor for it. Bellamy explained to Murphy that Clarke did care about him. When Clarke returned, she did not hold a grudge against Murphy for his choice in allegiance.

Friends: Fighting A.L.I.E Together

The 100 Bellamy and Murphy fight against ALIE

For as much as Bellamy and Murphy may have disagreed, they were definitely on the same side when it came to defeating A.L.I.E. They had people they cared about either under the influence or fighting against it, and they had to make sure their people came out safely.

At one point, while Bellamy stands nearby Clark to protect her from oncoming A.L.I.E followers, Murphy must pump blood to Clarke’s heart to keep her alive so that she saves the day.

Not Friends: Murphy And Bellamy Were On Opposite Sides Of Transcendence

Granted, everyone was against Bellamy and Cadogan’s desire for Transcendence. However, when Bellamy returns from his time on Etherea, he is brainwashed into believing everything about following the Shepherd. It was not a good look on Bellamy when his friends had looked up to him to do the right thing.

Instead, Murphy refers to Bellamy as “a sheep” and isn’t interested in figuring out why Bellamy is so behind following this path or why Bellamy seems to have less love for his friends.

Friends: Bellamy Counts Murphy As His Family

While Clarke is locked up in the Second Dawn Bunker, Bellamy refers to Spacekru as his family, including Murphy in the list. Bellamy was relying on Murphy, especially in the aftermath of Monty and Harper’s deaths.

Murphy was noticeably upset by Bellamy’s death. However, when talking to Emori, Murphy references that he picked up Bellamy’s techniques in how he would talk to Raven.

Not Friends: Bellamy Allowed Murphy To Be Hung By The Delinquents

Bellamy was still figuring out how to be a leader surrounded by anarchy and delinquents when Wells was killed. Clarke initially believed Murphy was the culprit because Charlotte had used his knife, and Clarke confronts Murphy in front of everyone. While Bellamy was not on board with that method, he takes a step back when the Delinquents rally to hang Murphy in retaliation.

At this point, Clarke is telling everyone to stop and yelling that this is not how they should deal with things. Bellamy doesn’t do anything, and Clarke only saves Murphy after Charlotte revealed she killed Wells.

Friends: Bellamy And Murphy Go To Space Together

Bellamy and Clarke didn’t have to include Murphy and Emori in their trip to save Raven from Becca’s Island. But, in doing so, they ended up being on a team to save themselves by going up to space.

Bellamy and Murphy help each other prepare the rocket while Clarke’s job is to line up the satellite to the Ring so that the power will work. Going to space together pretty much solidifies Bellamy and Murphy’s friendship, at least until Bellamy returns from Etherea.
