The 10 Hardest Levels In Lego Video Games, Ranked

Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga debuted on April 5, 2022, and fans are still flocking to the game months after its release to play through all nine films of the Skywalker Saga. With planned improvements and even more character expansion packs, the game is sure to thrive for many years to come.

Each Lego games has offered players fun levels that are relatively easy to complete. However, there are some levels, mostly in the earlier Lego games, that are notorious for their difficulty, frustrating all but the most hardcore of gamers.

“An Icy Reception”

Lego Batman: The Videogame

The 10 Hardest Levels In Lego Video Games, Ranked

The original Lego Batman game was, for the most part, a cakewalk for gamers. But “An Icy Reception” proved to be a bit of a challenge.

The entire level, which showed Batman and Robin chasing down Mr. Freeze, takes place on a series of catwalks which result in instant death if players fall off into the chasm. The level gets worse as the final boss battle against Mr. Freeze is reached, as his battle is overly complicated and is one of the hardest bosses in the game. To make matters even worse, it’s only the second level of the story arc rather than closer to the end.

“The Zillo Beast”

LEGO Zillo Beast

A great episode arc that should be among the best episodes in Star Wars: The Clone Wars are the episodes involving the Zillo Beast. However, the level involving this episode in Lego Star Wars III: The Clone Wars was quite the challenge.

The level starts with a typical format of levels in the game, with players having to build up bases and destroy Separatist bases over the area. This alone takes some time to do, given that some structures need certain weapons to destroy them. But following this, in Story Mode, players must battle the Zillo Beast itself, and for that, they need to build up bases again to reach the tanks needed to win while the monster throws debris at them constantly.

“Defense Of Kashyyyk”

Revenge of the Sith may have upset some people, but the prequel film is hugely popular with those who grew up watching it. The movie levels in Lego Star Wars: The Video Game, however, have caused some grievances even with those who like the movie.

One such level is “Battle of Kashyyyk,” which covers the battle on the Wookiee homeworld. The hardest part of this level for many is that players are constantly harassed by an endless swarm of enemies as they are trying to build things. As many know, getting hurt while building reduces progress and stops the building action, meaning that gamers must constantly stop building and deal with the enemies before continuing their work. It’s tedious and can be frustrating as this happens multiple times throughout the level.

“Hoth Battle”

The Battle of Hoth was a challenging time for the Rebellion, made even more challenging for players when they had to play through the battle themselves in the first level of The Empire Strikes Back set in the second Lego Star Wars game.

While piloting snowspeeders, players had to use cables to trip up AT-ATs before grappling thermal detonators and dragging them to the fallen walkers. This in itself was tough to do, given vehicle mechanics in the game, but what made it even worse were the constant amount of probe droids flying in to drag the detonators away from their intended targets.

“The Black Rider”

Lego The Lord Of The Rings

LEGO Frodo and Black Rider

Lego The Lord of the Rings brought forth the world of Middle-Earth into Lego form, including many of the challenges that Frodo and the Fellowship would have to face.

An early level in the game, “The Black Rider,” really showed how challenging the game could be. Most of the level involves escaping the Nazgûl, but whenever you were spotted, a prompt to resist putting on the One Ring had to be completed. Even past that was a final chase scene where players had to outrun the Nazgûl chasing them, which is hampered by various obstacles in the way to slow players down to allow the Ringwraith to catch up.

“Motorcycle Escape”

Lego Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures

Another early game in the Lego game franchise was the one for Indiana Jones. One particular level in the game proved to be extremely difficult to complete: “Motorcycle Escape.”

While motorcycles are provided in the level to quickly complete it (hence the name), players are unable to fight off the endless waves of enemies while riding them. Even after surviving all the sections of the level, the final part of the level is a nightmare all on its own, with one-hit-kill missile turrets forever trained on players until they are destroyed, which can only be done through the use of a bazooka.

“Gunship Cavalry”

Lego Star Wars: The Video Game

LEGO Gunship Cavalry

Attack of the Clones may still make some Star Wars fans mad, but the Lego levels representing the movie are largely straightforward and easy, with the one exception being “Gunship Cavalry.”

For this level, players had to race through the Geonosian landscape in a gunship while avoiding getting stuck behind various rocks or shot down by enemy forces. The final part of the level also featured a time limit to take down the ship. This level was one of the few changed for Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga, which removed the time constraints in favor of towing more thermal detonators to destroy things.

“Death Star Escape”

Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy

LEGO Han Solo and Chewbacca on the Death Star

The escape from the Death Star in A New Hope was a challenging ordeal for Luke Skywalker and the rest of the heroes. But this escape in the Lego game was even more of a challenge for players.

The level is mostly easy right up until the end. Players have to deal with a room filled with stormtroopers, which respawn in fairly quickly as they try to build a door to escape to the final section of the level in. With the build action disrupted and regressed with each hit taken while in the process of building, players must clear the room and quickly build the door before they get attacked seconds later once more, which leads to a very tedious experience.

“Darth Vader”

Lego Star Wars: The Video Game

Darth Vader is one of the most brutal villains in movie history, and players got to fight against him before he got his iconic black suit in the first Lego Star Wars game.

However, the level is a nightmare from start to finish, as gamers must time their jumps perfectly to avoid falling into the lava and having to restart the mission section over again. If they go too slow, the structure crumbles from under their feet. One mistake could spell disaster for even the most seasoned gamers. Players must move fast and hope that they don’t wind up in the lava during every section.

“Mos Espa Podrace”

Lego Star Wars: The Video Game

LEGO Podracers

This level is the stuff that gaming nightmares are made from. Though it seems easy enough on the surface — all the player has to do is win the podrace — in practice, this task is one of the hardest achievements to pull off.

Each section is bound by a time limit. If players miss the time limit, they have to restart the section. There is also a chance of death everywhere due to rocks, sand traps, and Tuskan Raiders firing on everyone. Combine that with the speed requirements needed to win, and it’s a long slog to beat this level. While The Complete Saga updated the level, the original is still a bonus level that players have to beat in order to fully complete the game.
