The 10 Best DreamWorks Movies Ranked By IMDb & Their Most Iconic Quote

The 10 Best DreamWorks Movies Ranked By IMDb & Their Most Iconic Quote

With popular movies and blockbuster franchises such as Shrek and How To Train Your Dragon under their belts, DreamWorks has become one of the most notable animation studios in the world. In fact, it is fair to say that some of their movies are on the same standards as their long-term rival, Disney.

Some of DreamWorks’ best hits on IMDb have earned them that spot because of the exciting storylines, memorable characters, and some very quotable lines. These most iconic quotes have been popular among fans for years because of their snappy humor, touching wisdom, or simply setting the tone of the movie.

The Croods (7.2)

“What’s A Pet?” “It’s An Animal You Don’t Eat.” “Ha! We Call Those Children!”

The 10 Best DreamWorks Movies Ranked By IMDb & Their Most Iconic Quote

The Croods is a prehistoric adventure focusing on a family of cave people as they must embark out into the world after their cave is destroyed. Led by over-protective patriarch Grug, they receive help from a dashing outsider called Guy, who becomes the love interest of teenage daughter Eep.

One of the best things about The Croods is the jokes about “inventing” new things such as hugs and pets. In regards to the latter, Gran scoffs “Ha! We call those children!” The line is brilliantly funny, thanks to Cloris Leachman’s great voice work, and is a great and harmless joke for adult audiences.

Shrek 2 (7.2)

“And Could Somebody Please Bring Me Something Deep-Fried And Smothered In Chocolate?!”

Fairy Godmother blackmailing the King in Shrek 2

The sequel to the beloved story about a grumpy green ogre, Shrek 2 was just as well-received as its predecessor. This is partly because of the introduction of new characters that delighted fans, from the swashbuckling Puss in Boots to the villainous Fairy Godmother.

Brilliantly played by Jennifer Saunders and with a faux-kind appearance that rivals Dolores Umbridge, the Fairy Godmother is one of the best movie fairy characters. Despite her rather sinister motives, she has some brilliant lines, including the highly relatable “Could somebody please bring me something deep-fried and smothered in chocolate?!”

Megamind (7.3)

“There’s A Benefit To Losing: You Get To Learn From Your Mistakes.”

Roxanne kidnapped by Megamind

DreamWorks’ Megamind is a very funny and refreshing take on the classic superhero versus supervillain story which surprisingly lacks a sequel. When supervillain Megamind unexpectedly defeats his archrival, the chivalrous Metro Man, he soon finds himself bored and at a loose end.

What makes Megamind an extremely lovable character is that he’s somewhat of a misfit who not only wants a sense of purpose but learns valuable life lessons on the way and is soon celebrated for who he is. This is perhaps why his response to Hal, who eventually becomes supervillain Titan, is one of the movie’s most iconic quotes.

Rise Of The Guardians (7.3)

“I Hope You Like The Loop-De-Loop!”

Santa, Tooth Fairy, Jack Frost, Easter Bunny, and Sandman in Rise of the Guardians

Rise of the Guardians has become a solid fan favorite for many viewers. With a balance of emotional moments and humor, breathtaking visuals and a stellar cast of characters, Rise of the Guardians is a modern holiday classic movie.

There are some wonderful characters, and one such character is North, a tough yet very jovial interpretation of Santa Claus. He might be the most quotable character in the movie, as brilliantly demonstrated when he takes Jack and the other Guardians to Tooth’s kingdom in his famous sleigh. “I hope you like loop-de-loops!” is followed by a queasy Bunnymund responding “I hope you like carrots.”

Wallace & Gromit: The Curse Of The Were-Rabbit (7.4)

“A Bullet Of Pure Gold… Twenty Four Karat.”

Gromit, Wallace and Lady Tottington in The Curse of the Were Rabbit.

Created in collaboration with British stop-motion studios Aardman, Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit proved to be a smash hit and took home Best Animated Feature at the Oscars. Bringing the bumbling inventor and his intelligent dog to the big screen, the movie sees Wallace and Gromit in a spoof-horror adventure as a mysterious giant rabbit terrorizes the town.

The movie is full of puns and comedic moments, both in dialogue and visuals. One such example is when Victor Quartermaine, the main antagonist, visits the town vicar to learn how to kill the Were-Rabbit. The vicar’s response is not only a spoof on the classic werewolf mythology but a silly yet hilarious pun that undercuts the tone of the moment in pure Aardman fashion.

How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World (7.5)

“I Love You Too, And I Want You To Be Free.”

Hiccup resting his forehead against Toothless in How to Train Your Dragon 3

While it may be surprising that the third movie in a franchise made it in IMDb’s Top Five, it’s not a big shock in this instance. How to Train Your Dragon has become one of the most popular animated franchises to date, and the third and final movie rounds off the trilogy perfectly.

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, although one of IMDb’s best-animated sequels, ends on a bittersweet note. After many years together growing as characters, hero Hiccup parts ways with his beloved dragon Toothless as the latter joins the other dragons, including the Light Fury, to remain in the Hidden World. It may be one of DreamWorks’ most tear-jerking moments.

Kung-Fu Panda (7.6)

“Yesterday Is History, Tomorrow Is A Mystery, But Today Is A Gift. That Is Why It Is Called The Present.”

Po and Oogway from Kung Fu Panda

The first in its trilogy, Kung Fu Panda surprised and delighted audiences with its breathtaking animation and excellent humor. With its unusual premise of a lazy panda being selected as the new Dragon Warrior despite having no kung-fu training, the movie, and ultimately the franchise, has become a hit.

While Kung Fu Panda has some extremely hilarious scenes, there are also some heartfelt and thought-provoking moments, most notably from Master Oogway. The wise old tortoise consoles Po after his disastrous first day of training and tells him this wise advice. Oogway is a brilliant character in the franchise, and could easily have his own book of sage quotes.

How To Train Your Dragon 2 (7.8)

“This Is Who You Are, Son. Who WE Are. And We Will Change The World For All Dragons. We Will Make It A Better Safer Place.”

The second movie in the franchise, How to Train Your Dragon 2 takes place five years after the first movie and introduces fans to Hiccup’s mother, the strong dragon rescuer Valka.

Despite the fact she left her family behind, Valka is definitely one of DreamWorks’ best mother characters. She is a strong and selfless individual who cares greatly about her son as well as dragons. So naturally, she is delighted when she sees that Hiccup also developed this care for dragons. It’s not only a great stepping stone for mother-and-son bonding but also a great moment for bringing peace and harmony for the dragons.

Shrek (7.9)

“WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN MY SWAMP?!”

Shrek and Donkey standing by a sunflower field

There is perhaps no other non-Disney animated movie that is as beloved and as quotable as Shrek. The first adventure of the grumpy ogre and the characters he meets along the way are still fresh in fans’ minds.

There are so many fantastic Shrek quotes that could be considered iconic, especially from the hilarious chatterbox Donkey. But perhaps the most iconic of all is his exclamation of horror at all the fairy tale characters and creatures that have been carelessly abandoned in his beloved swamp. Fans still bellow this quote today.

How To Train Your Dragon (8.1)

“Whilst Other Places Have Parrots And Ponies… We Have… Dragons.”

Hiccup flying on Toothless in How to Train Your Dragon

Almost unsurprisingly, DreamWorks’ highest-ranking movie on IMDb is the first How to Train Your Dragon. The movie introduced fans to clumsy boy Hiccup as he finds and befriends perhaps one of the most beloved and popular characters in both animation and dragons, Toothless the Night Fury.

The movie starts with a rather bleak introduction to Hiccup’s home, the village of Berk, stating how dragons have been a menace for many years. But the final words flip this on its head, proudly stating that dragons are a proud addition to the Viking village. It’s not only the perfect ending to the movie but the perfect set-up for the iconic franchise that followed.
