Thanksgiving Director Picks What Other Holiday Deserves A Slasher Movie (& It Wouldn’t Be Safe For Kids)

Thanksgiving Director Picks What Other Holiday Deserves A Slasher Movie (& It Wouldn’t Be Safe For Kids)

Thanksgiving director Eli Roth has revealed what other holiday he’d like to see turned into a gory slasher film. The horror creator’s latest film follows a slasher villain in Plymouth, Massachusetts whose Thanksgiving-themed kills are connected to a Black Friday tragedy the year before. The movie’s success has resulted in a sequel being confirmed, no doubt continuing to use the holiday as its backdrop.

Speaking with CinePOP, Roth revealed that, beyond confirming Thanksgiving 2, he has an idea for another holiday that could become a slasher film.

His answer, which starts at 4:48, reveals he thinks the Easter Bunny could make for an interesting horror villain. Check out what Roth had to say below:

I had such a great time with Thanksgiving it’s hard to think of another one. But I do feel like there’s a great killer Easter Bunny movie out there.

Would An Easter Bunny Slasher Film Work?

The success Roth was able to conjure with his gruesome Thanksgiving slasher proves that holiday-themed horror movies can still be made in the present day. While other successful slashers like Silent Night, Deadly Night and My Bloody Valentine were released decades ago, there’s still a clear appreciation for horror based on different times of the year. This makes it all the more likely an Easter bunny film would be an interesting concept to explore.

Some low-budget slashers like Easter Bunny Massacre and Bunnyman Massacre do exist, but they don’t have the level of polish associated with more mainstream horror movies. If a high-budget rendition of an Easter Bunny horror movie were to be made, it could prove to be a compelling twist on the beloved holiday character. If Roth himself were to direct it, then it would no doubt contain references to other horror movies like Thanksgiving does.

However, it’s clear Roth’s current focus is on the Thanksgiving franchise, with no concrete plans to explore other holidays at the moment. Now that he’s expressed the idea for an Easter-themed slasher, though, it wouldn’t be surprising to see one from another established horror director in the future. With holiday-themed horror back on the menu, there’s no telling what the next dish will be.
