Texas Chainsaw Massacre Family Guide: Johnny (Best Perks & Strategies)

Texas Chainsaw Massacre Family Guide: Johnny (Best Perks & Strategies)

Johnny is one of the Family members players can control in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to hunt down captive teens. He joins the game line-up alongside Sissy, Cook, Hitchhiker, and Leatherface. He can slip through narrow entries like Hitchhiker, but has a tracking ability reminiscent of Cook and a useful balance of Savagery and Endurance.

Johnny’s special ability is called Hunt. When activated, Johnny can see the bloody footprints of the Victims, allowing for easy tracking. This power is a more focused interpretation of Cook’s Seek ability, with more direction but less range. Johnny is a good Family member for those who prefer a steady assault over consistent blood harvesting.

Best Perks For Johnny In The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Texas Chainsaw Massacre Family Guide: Johnny (Best Perks & Strategies)

Many of the best perks for Johnny in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre are great for all five Family members. However, the key strategy with Johnny’s build is to keep up the chase against the Victims. Once you’ve found a Victim, Johnny can follow them through whatever path they take. Should you lose the Victim, Johnny’s best perks can work in conjunction with Hunt to find them once more.

To start, Feral is a good choice for those who want to maximize Johnny’s attacks. Feral increases Johnny’s naturally high Savagery attribute. Johnny has the third-highest starting Savagery of all five Family members at 30. This perk elevates his impressive slaughtering skill to greater heights. However, since Johnny’s biggest skill is his tracking talent, most of his best perks focus on that.

One of the best perks for Johnny in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is Punishment, which rewards players for following bloody tracks to a Victim’s hiding spot. Upon finding the Victim in the hiding spot, Johnny deals extra damage. When combined with Feral, this perk can spell doom for any unfortunate Victims Johnny finds around the map. The main drawback to this perk is that it hinges on Victims using specific hiding spots. Many Victims avoid these areas, making it impossible to activate Punishment.

I Smell Blood is an excellent way to keep track of Victims should they slip out of Johnny’s embrace. This perk increases Johnny’s proximity range, marking the last Victim he’s seen for longer. This gives you more time to catch up with a Victim if they slip through a crack when Johnny’s at low stamina, or if they manage to stun him.

Patience is a great stamina-based perk that rewards what the name implies. When Johnny stands still, his ability consumption rate gets reduced. If you don’t like the idea of waiting around, you can grab Warmed Up, which provides Johnny with some extra ability charge after a close encounter. Both of these perks allow you to use Hunt more frequently and stay on the Victims’ trail.

There are more perks that can transform Johnny into the best killer the Family has ever seen, but it all depends on what perks you’ve unlocked for him. Be confident in how you want to play Johnny and pick perks that make it easier to chase after foolish Victims and cut them down.

How To Play Johnny In The Texas Chainsaw Massacre

Johnny runs through the map with a knife in hand.

Johnny’s kit in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre focuses on an endless hunt around the map. He is supposed to be the evocative and predatory hunter, always on the trail of a Victim. Since his Blood Harvesting is extremely low, you should not waste time collecting blood as Johnny. Your attacks will generate blood for a quick visit with Grandpa, but helping the old man is the responsibility of the other Family members on your team. Johnny must keep hunting.

Near the start of a match, you’ll need to block off any nearby exits to the map while the Victims are stuck in the basement. This is an important step to playing any Family member, as an unlocked gate means an easy escape for a Victim. Trust your Family to prepare the exits near their spawn. Once you’re done, the Victims should be leaving the basement, allowing Johnny to begin his Hunt.

Once you spot a Victim, keep a close eye on your stamina. Many Victims wait until your stamina is lower before slipping through a gap, as you’ll then have to wait a few seconds before you can get through the gap as well. Make sure you have enough stamina when the Victim leads you to a gap so you can go through as soon as they leave.

Part of the fun of playing Johnny is that, with the right knowledge of the map, you don’t have to stay right behind your Victim. When you use Hunt, you can check where your Victim is heading and book it to where that path exits. This allows you to get in front of your Victim and do serious damage. This also keeps them guessing whether you are on their tail or if you’ll appear in front of them. This strategy works best in areas like the basement where the Victim’s paths are limited.
