USA Network’s Temptation Island aired the first episode of its third season last month. Fans are already calling out Kendal Kirkland, Erica Washington’s boyfriend, for his questionable behavior. It’s not uncommon for viewers to side with one-half of one of the four couples who go on this show, especially when one’s behavior is seen as villainous. In Kendal and Erica’s case, Kendal’s words and actions are putting him low on the totem pole of all Temptation Island contestants. Some would even say Kendal is worse than Evan Smith from season one and David Benavidez from season two.
For those who have been fans of Temptation Island from the beginning, those names probably ring a bell. In season one, Evan left his ex, Kaci Campbell, utterly heartbroken. Not only did he break up with her at the end of their time on the island, but he also left Maui with Morgan Lolar, who he later proposed to. David also broke up with his partner, Kate Griffith. Unlike Evan, however, he didn’t commit to one single, but used his time on the island as a chance to hook up with as many women as possible. He left without Kate, but not before making her question everything about their relationship and herself due to his actions.
Viewers have yet to see how Kendal’s journey on Temptation Island ends. But what they’ve seen from Erica’s boyfriend so far has not left them with high hopes. One Reddit user said, “I didn’t think it was possible for me to find a person worse than David from S2 but Kendal has taken the cake.” While only two episodes have aired so far, fans have seen Erica cry more than once due to Kendal’s actions on the island, and what she has gone through in their relationship back home. Another Reddit user said, “Evan walked so David could run. Then Kendal told David, ‘Hold my beer.‘”
So far, Erica has revealed Kendal has had a significant impact on her self-worth and overall happiness. Now that they’re on the island, Kendal seems to have eyes for a new woman just two episodes in. Reddit users have already accused Kendal of gaslighting, narcissism, and more, which are both things Evan and David were accused of at one point or another. However, it took until nearly the end of their seasons for their character to be questioned by fans. Fans are already concerned about Erica’s wellbeing, and whether or not Kendal is worthy of her at all.
The second episode of Temptation Island ended in a bonfire where two of the women, Erica included, saw what their significant others had been up to so far. Erica witnessed Kendal sensually dancing with the woman he picked for his first date. The episode ended in the middle of Erica confessing how she felt about their relationship, even before the show. If Kendal is already deemed worse than Evan or David, fans can only hope that Erica finds her soulmate while on the show, or even better, self-love.
