Teen Mom: OG’s Amber Portwood in Trouble with the Law Again

Teen Mom OG’s Amber Portwood is in trouble with the law again. She is one of the most talked-about Teen Mom’s in the franchise, and it seems she is making the news again for all the wrong reasons. Incidentally, this is not her first run-in with the law.

In 2010, Amber was arrested for choking and hitting her ex-fiancé, Gary Shirley, in front of their daughter, Leah, and she was ultimately charged with a felony domestic battery. The fights between Amber and Gary were caught on video by the Teen Mom film crew, leading to viewers calling Indiana’s child abuse hotline to report the violence. In 2011, Amber was arrested again, this time for violating her probation, being accused of public intoxication, and battery. She was sentenced to five years in prison for possession of prescription drugs, and she was offered a plea deal by the judge, which would have had her enter a rehab facility. However, not long after accepting the plea deal and rehab sentence, Amber missed a court hearing and was sent back to jail, being released just short of two years later in November of 2013.

After nearly six years of staying on the straight and narrow with the law, the 29-year-old reality star was arrested on Friday, July 5 on a domestic battery charge in her home state of Indiana. According to E! NewsThe Teen Mom: OG star is accused of wielding a machete at her live-in boyfriend. It was reported that police spoke with Amber’s boyfriend Andrew Glennon on the scene who said that both he and Amber had gotten into a disagreement which had turned physical. During this altercation, he claimed Amber had assaulted him while he was holding their son, James. The police arrested Amber at the scene, and she was charged with three felonies: domestic battery, domestic battery committed in the presence of a child, and criminal recklessness committed with a deadly weapon. Andrew then sought custody of their child, while Amber appeared in court to enter a not guilty plea and a no-contact order was issued.

Amber was later released from jail after only a day-and-a-half behind bars. However, as Amber’s court hearing has been set for the end of the month, it is still unclear to viewers how this arrest will affect Amber’s place on Teen Mom OG or the status of her family for that matter. That said, this wouldn’t be the first time a Teen Mom has been in trouble with the law on the show. With the recent legal issues surrounding Jenelle Evans, she has recently been booted from the show.

This shows that MTV seems to be getting more no-nonsense about what they expect out of their stars. However, if Amber remains on the show, it’s possible that the legal drama will be part of the storyline of the popular MTV show. For now, only time will tell.

New episodes of Teen Mom OG air Mondays at 9pm EST on MTV.
